I make the mashed potatoes, with butter, sour cream and creamed cheese the day before. Then I put them in a buttered crock pot container, and stick them in the fridge overnight.
Next morning/day, you put them in the crock pot to warm up while you do the turkey, gravy, veg, etc.

Considering doing the potatoes is my least favourite part, it's nice to get it out of the way the day before.

There are quite a few recipes online. Almost all call for sour cream and creamed cheese, so they must be vital in some respect.

I imagine the sour cream and cream cheese keep them from drying out.

This is a fantastic idea and I wish I had thought of it earlier. I think crockpots are amazing!

Did you have to call in the plumber after everyone had all that roughage.

Me too, until the time that I donated an amount that I could afford to them, only to have a follow up letter Thanking me for my donation, however, it, according to them was not enough, to help them do the work that they are trying to do. Please send more ASAP. I try to get past that and think of the kids, but, that approach turned me off completely. So I started to spend time and money supporting the Make a Wish Foundation. They seemed to appreciate whatever I could do. Now that I am retired and have no huge steady income, I have to be very selective in what I donate, but, I do what I can do.

That's insane! I have never heard of a charity respond to a gift by telling you that you needed to send more money. That would turn me off too.
