Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

@JenniferS , now that you've had some time to settle in to your new home, how do you and Mike like it? Does the surrounding area offer you some good resources and entertainment? (I'm sure that Daisy has adapted well to her new digs!) 🐶
Our house in Brantford closed on Monday, so Mike had been bringing bin after bin, box after box, of stuff that should have been sorted and 95% of it chucked, and now the basement is a disaster zone! We’re settling in slowly.

This is a very small rural village. Within 2 minutes of driving away from the house, you are surrounded by rolling hills of nature. It’s very calming. The village downtown is two blocks long, and seriously could be mistaken for Schitt’s Creek, minus the Rose Motel, or Mayberry, minus Andy and Opie.

The entire town is served by the same postal code, indicative of how small it is. Between weather, work, moving, and more weather, we haven’t done much exploring. Now that the house is finally closed and the calendar is turning to May, we’ll be able to get out and explore.

Everyone in the downtown shops is super friendly. The grocery store, while small, is well stocked, and has a deli and bakery.

Im off today, so around my doctor’s appointment, I’ll be in full cleaning mode. I’ll take some pics.

Thank you for asking. 🙂

Sounds like living in Vermont. After 63 years I had my fill of small towns (all of the cities in Vermont have one postal code). I traded that for a high population, heavy trafficked, massive numbers of restaurants, activities, professional shows, and (maybe not rural NC) the cities are much more accepting of differences and have always been friendly toward me and my family. I guess everyone is different and I am happy for you that this seems to be something that is good for you. Life is way to short to not be happy with your place in life, be it where you work, where you live and especially where you recreate and relax. Maybe someday we will all be welcoming again, hopefully before I leave it permanently, and we can all be able to enjoy places like WDW again.

One thing I will say that I am proud of Canada for the way it is reacting to our current situations. The more this happens the quicker the end of it will come and socially things will get back to normal again.

Peterborough is a fairly large city - two Walmarts and a Costco - just 15 minutes away. I feel we have the best of both worlds now.

Brantford has changed. So much crime. Murders, drugs, homelessness, mental health problems, and assaults. It’s just not safe anymore. Our end of town was, but once the new high school is built just 400m away, who knows? We’re glad to be out of there.

My brothers and Ski are still there, so we’ll go home occasionally, but it’s time for them to start driving up here to see us. In our year in Lyndsay, we had three visitors - all from my side. None of Mike’s family came. He saw most of them last week during his five trips to Brantford, and told them - if you don’t manage to come up during the summer for a visit, I’ll see you at Christmas.

I went into a dispensary for the first time in my life yesterday. It was just to pick up some non-THC CBD cream for Mike’s knees, but still ….

(PS - I order CBD from the government online store all the time, but this was my first time physically entering a legal pot store.)

(PPS - It may come as a surprise to some of you, but I don’t have any objections to legal pot, it just isn’t for me. Same as alcohol. No issues, just none for me, thanks.)

My drug of choice, besides alcohol, back in the early 80’s was cocaine. Most of it was cut with speed, so it just made you talk and drink more…and grind your teeth…!!!!! :hilarious:
Fortunately, I gave it up when I met Carolyn.
Pot just always zoned me out, so I didn’t smoke too much of it.
I don’t have an issue at all with medical cannabis products. If it works, it works. It’s like any other “medicine”, and God put it here for a reason.

This is great to hear…!!! :)
As I’ve posted before, selling and moving can be difficult, but it was definitely best for us, as well, even after 33+ years in the same home previously…!!! :geek:
Y’all’s new town definitely looks beautiful and calming, and Lord knows we can all use that…!!!

By the photos, it looks like your town is smaller than mine. But I do find it funny that you're pointing out that a 2 mile drive gets to rolling hills and nature, and that your entire town is in the same postal code. That is totally normal around here. I've lived my entire life that way. I was an adult when I first learned bigger cities can have more than one postal code. It blew my mind.

Population according to the last census was 1739. It’s not 2 miles to rolling hills … 2 minutes. Maybe 800m.

It’s very rural.
