Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Y'all may want to bookmark this as it's probably never going to happen again. It's snowing and I'm not complaining. We're going to have a white Christmas
We had 6” dump up North and all through the GTA. Had a brutal drive home, but we made it … only to find maybe only 2-3” here.

The ground is white, and there’s enough to require shovelling, so yeah, it’s a white Christmas for us too.

We were stuck in multiple conga lines of snow plows. They ride two across (or three or four, depending on how many lanes the highway is, and sometimes two deep. It is illegal to pass them (if it were even possible), and they travel between 40-45 km/h.

It made for a very slow drive home.

Love for a white Christmas, not the adventure getting home. Of course, your boys welcomed you home to a sparkling clean house, a homemade fancy meal and a plate full of homemade cookies

Glad you made it home safely. As for the plows' conga line, I always like those -- when you ride behind them, you have a clear road, versus all the cars that come up 1/2 hour later, on those same stretches. My state (and Maine) do 2-3 plows on the interstates.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I got caught in one of those on a 6 lane section of the New Jersey Turnpike in 1982. At least I think it was there, it was hard to tell because I was pretty busy watching cars and highway to be sure, but I am sure it was in New Jersey. Make that one of the 999 reasons that eventually lead to my relocation a little further south.

Plow conga lines are pretty common up here. If you’re on a major highway for a long time during a snowfall, you’ll get stuck in a few of them.

The enter the highway en masse, and you can see them on the ramp with their flashing blue lights. You’re kind of stuck either way. If you speed ahead and are lucky enough to get ahead of them, you’re on unplowed highway where lane markings are probably indiscernible. If you’re unlucky enough to get stuck behind them, you’re on freshly plowed roadway … doing 40% of the posted speed limit. Lose/lose.

Each conga line only goes for three or four exits, at which point they’re at the end of their contracted territory. They then exit en masse, plow the overhead bridge and then hop back on the highway going the opposite direction.

Welcome to Canada eh. And also many northern states presumably.

The trade off is that we have a beautiful white Christmas. They write songs about that.

It does get a little frustrating when you get behind one but it is much safer to stay there. I find it a very clever way to clear a highway quickly. One swipe and it is done. The only place where it might be worth trying to get around is between the first and second plow when the snow-wall is the smallest. I did get around one of them in Jersey that night but I scared myself half to death when I hit the small wall of snow. Never did it again. I just learned to have a little more patience. Better to arrive late than not arrive at all, is my motto now.

Vermont doesn't have more that two lanes per direction on the interstates so they have one with a right facing blade and wing and one other with a left facing blade and wing. Spreading salt at the same time. If you gotta have snow, that is the way to clear it.

It’s illegal to pass them here. They will 100% box you out.

Not worth the fine. Not worth dying. I stay put, and actually feel more comfortable with the reduced speed.
