Watching the 60 Minutes 9/11 show, dedicated to the FDNY, and started thinking of you
@Tiggerish. Hope you are okay tomorrow. ((Hugs))
Thanks, friends. It means a lot that you'd remember.
Had lunch with my dad today, and he wondered a couple of times what Ed would be up to or how he'd be doing now, had he lived (dad is 91 now, and is starting to repeat himself often, although on this particular topic, it's totally understandable). I can't even imagine what he must be feeling now at that great age, having fully expected his son to outlive him. All I can do is support. Dad gets angry about the whole thing, but it just makes me sad.
I don't recall if I mentioned it here, but my brother's fiancee, who is also NYPD but was not yet there on 9/11, had followed in her older sister's footsteps. Her sister, just like my brother, was in the thick of things on 9/11 and eventually rose to become a captain, well respected, well loved, and could've achieved great heights in the NYPD, but just last March was diagnosed with 9/11 cancer. It was even more aggressive than Ed's, she got only six months, and tragically passed last year on September 11, the anniversary of the day that had led to her death, at the age of 45 leaving behind two teenage daughters.
Talk about bad things happening to good people. Did a 5k this morning in her memory, organized by her sister, who even though my doofus brother didn't get around to doing the right thing and marrying her, continues to be my sister as well.
OK, that's me done being maudlin this evening.
