Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

And now the rest of the story... After that incident and all had recovered, I made a visit to the pediatrician. I asked if there was nothing that could be done about her monthly illnesses due to allergies. We knew what she was allergic too, things like grass, dust, milk and so on. I asked why there wasn't an allergy shot that might relieve her from that constant illness. He looked at me and with a straight face said "There is, but we prefer that they just grow out of them". I just looked back with what was probably the most bewildered I have ever been and said, OK, then until you decide that she and her parents have gone through enough, her next fever and illness will be at your house. You can take care of it at 3am like we have too. Two weeks later she had an appointment with the allergist, received the first of a series of shots and it was about 4 more years before she even had a cold again. Ah, the good old days.
Good for you! Sometimes you have to play hardball. I think sometimes doctors see so many patients and see things so many times with varying degrees of severity that they get somewhat desensitized and don't realize what people are going through. And one person can handle pain better than another, one person has more time than another, one person can afford to take more time off than another, etc. Every situation is different...you can't decide for someone else how much they can handle or how much pain they are in.

When A was 3 weeks old, we got word from my MIL that she was being tested for whooping cough because she was coughing and it wouldn't go away and her sister-in-law tested positive and had been to visit. The kids were both coughing up a storm and had high fevers, too, but we had thought it was just a flu bug. We called the doctor, explained A was having trouble nursing because he was coughing too much, and that his fever was really high, and that he had probably been exposed to whooping cough. I had looked up statistics, and 70% of infants with whooping cough have to be hospitalized. The doctor didn't even want to test him. "Small children often run higher fevers than adults do. He's probably fine." My nephew's doctor (he was 2 years old) put him on antibiotics immediately without even bothering with a test. Our doctor wouldn't even let us make an appointment to look at A. We called and called and called until they gave us antibiotics just to shut us up. To this day, I don't trust our doctor completely because it seemed extremely irresponsible not to even take a look at a 3 week old baby who couldn't eat and had most likely been exposed to an illness known to be deadly to infants.

Always advocate for yourself, or someone in your care, if something just doesn't feel right (after following reasonably measured guidelines from the physician). I do give most physicians a lot of credit; but there are instances when I believe that we all know our own medical situation better, and how we personally respond to various treatments, more than they can.

All the guys I knew in school back then, picked Mary Ann over Ginger. There's a lot of broken hearts out there today, I'm sure.

Me being one of them. Most of us thought Ginger was not someone you could take home to meet your mother, but Mary Ann was perfect in everyway. If I had been on the island with her, I wouldn't have tried to fix the boat either. I mean really, the Professor could make a long range radio out of a coconut but he couldn't find a way to patch the boat. Sure professor, Sure!

I've been a fan of Boston Dynamics for years -- watching the continual upgrades to their robots. That company is just amazing (I've shared a few video clips the past few years here, too.) Their robots have multiple applications in certain businesses, and the military, also, has applications for them.

So here is their latest -- a holiday dancing video with a few of their robots. :joyfull:

The advancements in robotics over the past few decades are unreal.

On New Year's Ever I usually type up a list of things I've accomplished, or major events that have taken place over the past year, and post them here. However, when I think back on this year, there aren't really any major personal accomplishments or events that have taken place. I'm sure that's the case for many people. I pretty much just tried to survive a pandemic and not get COVID, and I guess I was successful in not getting COVID. At least that I know of. So instead of posting about this past year, how about some things I hope I can do next year. Emphasis on the hope part.

#1: Get the vaccine. I'm hoping they can ramp up vaccine production and distribution in the new year. Selfishly, I am hoping that teachers are part of the next wave of vaccine distribution.

#2: Return to "normal" schooling in September. Over winter break, I have come up with so many different ideas that I want to do when we get back to normal schooling. I started a document listing all of my ideas, so I don't forget them by the time I can actually implement them.

#3: Move. For those that don't know, I currently live about 30 minutes from where I work. I'd like to move to the town where I work. I had plans to do that this past summer, but they were put on hold with all the uncertainty.

#4: Actually do something for fun outside of my house. Self explanatory.

#5: Have a new season of Survivor. Because when don't I make something about Survivor?

How about you guys? Whether it's accomplishments in 2020, or outlook to 2021?

Okay, my turn ....

Mike and would like to buy a small-ish RV and travel our beautiful country. Yours too.

We want to go east to the Maritimes, where Mike spent many, many summers as a kid. We’d like to go west to see Banff National Park and spend a night or two at the Chateau.

I want to see Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, visit the Keys, and spend weeks parked somewhere lovely in Florida, preferably close to a beach. (They have beaches there, yes?)

I want to see Mickey, visit Bestie in NYC, and spend next NYE with our friend in Pigeon Forge.

I would also like me and my mine to remain COVID-free until such time as we can eventually be vaccinated. I know we’re pretty far down the priority list, but I’m switching to short sleeved shirts just to be ready.

I would like to have another successful project or two work-wise. Maybe something a little closer to home though; as a three and a half to four hour round trip commute does get exhausting.

And I wish you all a happy and safe New Year’s Eve, and sincerely hope that 2021 is kinder to us all.

If you get to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore, let me know...I can give you some other ideas for site seeing in the area. There are some really cool things there...caves, the badlands, Devils Tower (in Wyoming, but close), and one of my favorite restaurants...the only thing they serve is filet mignon, so if you like steak, it's a great place. And they have some of the most decadent desserts, too.

I don't think I've really accomplished anything in 2020...the main thing I want from 2021 is to be able to travel again, even if it's just across the border into Germany. I'd REALLY like to go to Wyoming, but that's most likely not going to happen....next on my list is Austria.

E was supposed to go to London for school last March...they were scheduled to go on the Monday, the school canceled the trip the Friday before, and then schools closed down on the Tuesday when they would have been in London. They were all devastated, and it changed their program....half of the requirements of the dual immersion program they do are satisfied by going to London....they stay with host families, and one of the things they are supposed to do is have a conversation with a native speaker. Another is to have a written conversation with a native speaker. E was always able to do that, because, well, I'm a native speaker, obviously, and I hooked her up with friends so she could have video calls and email conversations, and I offered to talk to any one of her classmates who needed to meet those requirements, but they basically waved it and were hoping that this years 3rd years would be able to go along with this year's 2nd years on the London trip. But now it looks like they won't be able to go this year either. So I'd also like to take E to London.

Oh, and I want to be able to eat in a restaurant again.

I thought restaurants would be the small luxury I would miss the most - Mike and I eat out a lot ... but nope, turns out it was movie theatres.

I love going to the movie theatre, as is evidenced by the fact that I will return to see the same movie over and over. Nothing compares to movie theatre sound and picture. Sigh.

We don't really go out that much to do anything. My husband has a membership to the movie theater, so he and his brother usually go once a month and do a full day or full weekend of movies. They plan out their movie schedule and just go from one movie to the next. Obviously they haven't been able to do that this year. But I think the main thing for me is not so much that we usually go out so much, but just knowing I can't, even if I want to. We have been ordering a lot more take out this year, to support smaller businesses and such. But on our birthdays, we always go out, and we didn't get to celebrate any of our birthdays this year, so that's what I'm looking forward to.
