Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I'm in a suburb of Buffalo...Hubby grew up on Grand Island. Not too far from you!
We go to Buffalo quite often. We usually stay at one or the other Salvatore’s. Garden Place Hotel 90% of the time. Grand Hotel once in a while. (If you know the backstory ... we’re loyal to Joe.)

I weep for the state of our favourite mall - Eastern Hills Mall on Transit Road. RIP The BonTon. 🙁 And the Walden Galleria is nowhere near as much fun since Colton RV left. We used to spend hours in there.

Yes, can't be from Buffalo and not know about the Salvatore's feud! I love eating at Russell's, but nothing beats the sausage bread and Caesar salad from original Sal's.

I'm just down the road from Eastern Hills and it's been so sad watching the slow decline over the years. It's such a busy area too...shame that it wasn't revitalized! I totally agree about Bon Ton, that was upsetting. Not sure if you saw they put a large Raymour & Flanigan in its place. We'll see how long that lasts.

We haven’t seen the Raymour & Flanigan since it opened. I really miss the Dave & Busters too. It’s somehow not as good since it moved to the Galleria.

There seems to be a certain rapprochement between the two hotels in the past couple of years. Maybe Joe and Russell kissed and made up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I haven't been inside the new Dave & Busters at Galleria but most of the comments I hear about it are negative 👎.

Perhaps they realized that being at odds probably wasn't as good for their bottom line!

Are you familiar with the old Crystal Beach amusement park?

I am. I’ve spoken about it here before. 40+ years ago, that’s where my dad’s work summer picnic was held every year. I don’t remember anything other than The Comet and the gondola bucket ride.

It’s funny to read these two quotes. Apparently that spot weld comment really stuck with me.

I don't care for gondolas that much because my dad and I used to ride one at Crystal Beach decades ago. As we went out over the water, he would point out every single time that we were being held in place by a single spot weld ... and that the contract went to the lowest bidder.

Pictured in the background is the Comet (built from the remains of the world famous Cyclone), my very first roller coaster ride.

For many years, my dad's employer KeepRite hosted their company picnic at Crystal Beach. My mom would never step near any of the attractions, so I was my dad's ride buddy. Good times!
Pretty, but not practical as a full fledged transit system. Kind of hard to load scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, entire families on these novelty type rides.

I just barely remember the old Skyway. I know we rode on it at least once during our 2-day trips in 91 and 92; but then we didn’t return until we took the boys in 2003, by which time they were gone.

Surprisingly, I can vividly remember the Sky Ride at Crystal Beach from my childhood way more clearly. My mom wouldn’t get on the gondolas to save her life, so I always rode with my dad. Over every bump, he would point up and remind me that our entire weight was being held by a single spot weld ... and the contract went to the lowest bidder. 😂 And then, he would rock the gondola a bit.

Sort of ironic that my youngest son is now a welder, and he could be the one responsible for that single spot weld. Govern yourselves accordingly.

How funny...the single spot weld! Yes, looking back now I'm not sure how safe any of those rides were but such great memories! 🎢

I was briefly stationed at Niagara Fall International Airport right after Basic Training. Every Friday night we would venture into Buffalo and go to the Palace Burlesque Theater where girls would come on stage and take off their "glasses" (hmmm) and then we would go to Shakey's Pizza and eat pizza, drink dark beer and sing along with what was early karaoke until we were horse. (Music played and lyrics projected on a big screen.) We'd leave just after closing at 1am. Then as mature adult military men we would get up early on Saturday Morning and watch Roger Ramjet on TV. A must see for us back then. We were some wild and crazy guys!

My friend has a bumper sticker that says PETA:

No way - it’s been a while!!! How are you?
Hi @Taylor! Long time no see. Welcome back!
Thanks, it is good to be back! So much has happened for me especially in the past year. I just finished the Disney College Program, it ended in January luckily before any of this happened. I was skipper on the Jungle Cruise and the experience was just amazing!

That would be a fun job to have. We had our best skipper ever last year in June. I think his name was Brent? It started with a B. It;s probably in a post in this thread somewhere.
