Wow....it sounds like they need some new custodians! Do you just have one during the day and one at night? Is there night school or something? I don't ever remember having night custodians at the elementary school. I know we did at the high school because of activities and sports, but I don't remember having anyone at night at the elementary school.

I was pretty shocked when I came here. There are no custodians. Kids have to clean their own classrooms. There are 2 kids each day who sweep, empty trash, put things away, etc. And at the high school, one class is given a month or two of cafeteria duty on a certain day of the week. My daughter was supposed to have Tuesdays through May....after every break, they had to clean up all the trash left behind, and they were supposed to use a broom and dustpan to clean off the tables. She said it's disgusting. Her class only did it twice before schools were closed, so she got out of it for the most part. But there is no custodian there to clean up.

If they know your custodians are so bad, why don't they replace them?
We have one day custodian, but he is also our school projects guy. So he spends a lot of time building things, which means he doesn't always do his normal duties. He's also a volunteer firefighter, so he leaves a lot for calls.

We have two night custodians to clean the building after school each day. Sweep rooms, clean bathrooms, etc. One on my half of the building, one on the other half.

We currently, or at least before the closures, had another night custodian, but he will be moving up to the high school when some new construction finishes next year. So we will lose him.

But in comparison, the high school and middle school both have two day custodians. The high school is bigger than ours, but I think the middle school is smaller.

Oh wow, that's not enough! We had 4 or 5 in each building. Our high school only had 3 main hallways, plus the gym and the cafeteria and the library. I know there were several there to clean the classrooms after school, and then there was the Head custodian, who also did maintenance and he was there during the day. But they did an excellent job. It's so sad that you don't have enough people to really keep up with the workload! Just the amount of time it takes to clean a bathroom...there's no way to clean a whole school in 8 hours unless it's the old fashioned one-room school house type.

Us too, snow is gross this time of year.
This is my 9th year here in NC. For the first time, I don't recall any snow fall at all this year. If it did it was minor. The best news is no freezing rain either. That is our biggest problem normally in the winter season down here. This year nothing! BTW, that wasn't a complaint. We did get a few chilly days in the upper 20's F. But we did survive.

Fridays will have a theme to them, too! It will be Fireworks Friday!

Today's Fireworks Friday Attraction of the Day: Happily Ever After!

I believe this was from the first ever showing. It's fun to hear all the cheering in the background at every new song.

Are they training to be service dogs?
Yes. And for a wide range of issues. They will soon move onto obedience training first and then given to a trainer for specific training. My DD at University of Illinois was in a club doing the same.her University has the most physically disabled students. The buildings accommodate extremely well and they built new dorms which most have chosen to stay in that have roll in showers and tables and appliances with their counters all ADA in mind. The students received the dogs and training themselves and the pups felt at home on campus.

Great, now DH will be playing his 8 tracks all day tomorrow!
Don't worry about it to much. 8 Tracks are old and very brittle. They will break, stick together or bunch up in seconds. It's hard to believe that anyone even has an 8 track player anymore. The last time I had one of those was in 1975 and it was old then.
