Yea, I'm thinking that they must be tough to clean thoroughly. Germs would be extensive.

Maybe they'd have to be put through a dishwasher cycle to completely clean through?

There are no ridges in ours to collect yuckers. It’s completely smooth stainless steel. I just wash them in hot soapy water and then rinse.

Sounds like a lot of effort for a sissy sipper! I would think that all this lack of sterile paper sealed fresh straws is going to drive germaphobes to distraction. They will be back. Paper straws are a better alternative. When I was growing up, that is all that existed and somehow we survived.

Hot soapy water. I don’t need things disinfected; just clean. I am not a germaphobe.

Thanks for the image above. I'm sure some people will clean them out with the brush as shown.

However, for me, I think I'd go nutty cleaning out the inside of straws. I'd prefer to just avoid straws as much as I possibly could, just to avoid cleaning out the metal ones. (Actually, I rarely ever use straws to begin with. I prefer to drink directly out of a cup or glass.)

Anyone remember Flavor Straws from long ago. I remember my cousins having them when we'd visit them and thinking they were so cool. If you drank milk through them it turned into chocolate milk (nasty, but as a kid I was impressed with anything that would change the taste of milk)

But on the whole reusable straws just gross me out.

Guess the Saturday morning cartoon advertising breaks didn't pull you in. (As for me, I wanted everything that was advertised! ) The Space Food Sticks came about during/after the various space flights back then.
