National-Anisette-Day-July-2.jpg

On July 2nd we observe National Anisette Day. Anisette is an anise-flavored liqueur that is made by distilling aniseed and sometimes adding a sugar syrup. Anisette is popular in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France.

Pure Anisette should not be drunk straight as its alcoholic content is high enough to cause irritation to the throat. However, mixing it in with coffee, gin, bourbon or water will bring out a bit of a sweet flavor. To enjoy this sweetness without drinking, you can make Anisette cookies!

If you are one to grab all of the black jelly beans at Easter, you will surely enjoy this day and the drink that makes it unique, Anisette. Although Anisette does not contain licorice, it does have that sort of distinct flavor.

I just got bit by a mosquito while sitting on my couch. I will now spend the rest of the night on a seek and destroy mission.

Skeeters are such a nuisance. On a related topic--

Bought hubs a new toy for the summer. It's one of those (battery operated) bug zappers from Black Flag. Looks like a little tennis racket. It makes a zzzttttt buzzing noise when it kills a bug. :jawdrop:

This is what I find most often down here. They are known as House Centipedes. Never saw a single one until I moved down hear. They tend to startle one when they first are noticed, but, they are harmless and keep those tiny little bugs that can get through screens as their main meal ticket. I do take their life into my own hands, but, I don't panic like I used too. They are easy to kill, but, sometimes I just yawn and let them see another day. On the plus side... I have never seen a single mosquito since I moved down here. They tell me they are around, but, for over 7 years now, they have stayed away from me.

I am the designated centipede killer in our household. Even Mike gets the heebie jeebies and runs like a girl.

I also kill all the spiders, earwigs, and assorted creepy crawlies within my reach.

I draw the line at June bugs though. Those things get caught in my hair and freak me the heck out!

We have those up here, too. They freak me out.
