Just got back to the motel room after doing some late-night exploring of the Turtle Beach area, approx. 10-minutes from where I'm staying.
Right across the street from the beach sits this very sentimental restaurant to me (my Mom
LOVED this place, and I
had some good memories here growing up).

It sits overlooking the bay, and has excellent seafood. Try it out if ever you're in the neighborhood down here.
While on a long, Turtle Beach stroll tonight, I saw some commotion in the surf just ahead. There was some sort of spotlight flashing in and out of the water, two guys frantically rushing into the water with some gear...shining a light to observe something. But what was it? My first thought was, perhaps one of the namesake inhabitants of this beach (sea turtle) was nesting. As I got closer to the activity, I realized it wasn't a sea turtle...but a bull shark!
These men had caught, were measuring, tagging, and releasing a decent-sized bull shark. Quite fascinating, to say the least. Here's a short video I shot of them finishing up the measuring, and then releasing it back into the ocean:
I talked to them after they were finished. Turns out, they do this all over various coastlines as partly a hobby, but also to volunteer help local authorities monitor migration patterns of different aquatic species. One of the men told me that they have documented sharks which have previously been tagged as far away as Australia! It was really fascinating talking to them and learning of the different catches they've made over the years for research.
Okay, to bed I go. Heading further south tomorrow.
