I want a ‘vette.I want a Mustang.
I can actually afford a Mustang. A ‘vette or Lamborghini ... not so much.I want a ‘vette.
My daughter wants a Lamborghini Aventador. I said, “Sure. How ‘bout 2?”.
This article was on my news widget all day yesterday.Funny, that is exactly what was happening back just a short time before the oil embargo. That shortsightedness almost put the entire US auto industry on the bankruptcy trail. Those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it. The massive infusion of SUV's is ridiculous. People with one child have SUV's large enough for the Walton's. They block vision on the highway, in parking lots the are a hazard, they are completely unnecessary and are nothing more then a status symbol. Not to mention the enormous amounts of gas that they consume. If ever there was a time to think about possible pay back time from the oil producing parts of the world, now is the time, I would think. I don't even want to think about the fact they they cost more then my last house did and that required a 20 year mortgage. Gas is almost up to the $3.00 per gallon rate again. So much for whatever savings that "massive" tax cut generated. Me thinks, based on history, that there are some very tough times ahead.

I know, right.Peasant.
My kids have given up on that. Unless I die before to awful long, there will not be very much left when I go. That is why I prepaid all my final expenses so I could spend the rest without guilt. Now all I have to do is figure a way to live long enough to use it all up.I know, right.
My kids keep telling me to stop spending their inheritance. I’m like, “What inheritance?”

I don’t have any friends that drive cars. The guys have pickup trucks. The girls SUVs.
I singled this sentence out from your post. Yes, I am a child.I also don’t like being high.
Yeah - it’s crazy - I’m the only one of my friends with a car. I’m also one of the few with only 2 kids - most have 3 or 4 so they need the extra room. We also live very close to the Long Island Expressway where there are TONS of semi truck driving at all hours and being low down in a car is quite honestly a bit scary.MSRP for Honda Pilot-- BEGINNING at THIRTY THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS
NONE of the people you know, do not own anything except SUVs and trucks?
Wish I never brought up the Ford subject here. Apparently, not enough people give a damn that the reason why Ford achieved success through the years, was from ALL its customers (from various financial means). And I pray that other manufacturers do not follow Ford's new sucky business model. But it doesn't matter, does it? Nothing matters. Country has gone to hell.
Perhaps I'll take my 2007 eyesore of a small car and drive it off a cliff, so that people don't get offended by looking at it anymore, on the same streets where they drive.
It bothers me too. I drive a Ford Focus, which is getting "up there" in age. I don't want to shell out the hefty $$$$ for all the space, bells & whistles found in a majority of today's newer, pricier options. I just want something to get me from point A to point B safely, and me not have to sell a kidney to afford such. So yeah, I get where you're coming from.MSRP for Honda Pilot-- BEGINNING at THIRTY THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS

Why do that, just keep using it and annoy the hell out of them. That alone would be worth it. Everything is in a cycle. They will soon go the way of those 30 foot long massive cars of yesterday.NONE of the people you know, do not own anything except SUVs and trucks?

Come on over to the Netherlands. You don't see very many big cars over here at all. It's such a small country, there's not much space, so streets are narrower, parking spots are smaller, and therefore cars are also smaller. An SUV isn't really practical here because you wouldn't find a parking spot to accommodate it and it wouldn't maneuver the narrow streets well. And these smaller cars are so much more fuel effecient than those gas guzzlers.MSRP for Honda Pilot-- BEGINNING at THIRTY THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS

Are cars necessary or is there public transportation that would get you where you need to go? Our issue on Long Island, aside from all the people and cars and inadequate infrastructure, is there is virtually no public transportation so a car is a necessity. The LIRR only goes East/West and is expensive and not a viable option unless you are going to the city. And the bus systems, while they exist, really only go to the colleges and shopping malls. The real issue has become the lack of plowing after snow storms. I can't leave my house for a full day after it snows because it takes them so long to plow. That's been the real motivator in recent years for the shift to SUVs/trucks and other AWD vehicles. If you need to get to work or anywhere else when it snows, you need AWD because there's no guarantee the roads will be plowed when you need to go. I have 4 friends that work in ICU at local hospitals and their choice was either get an AWD vehicle or sleep at the hospital the night before a storm. They all opted for the vehicle.Come on over to the Netherlands. You don't see very many big cars over here at all.
