We stocked up on batteries, wood for the fireplace, non-perishable food, coolers .... We filled the tubs, dug out the old push button corded phone, and bought extra propane tanks for the barbecue.
Not complaining, but it was pretty anti-climactic as we watched numerous other countries welcome in the New Year every hour with scarcely a blip. Pretty sure we toasted our own New Year and went to bed, feeling tremendously relieved and just a tad disappointed.
We weren’t in a financial position to do so, but we knew plenty of folks who bought generators.
Awwww....poor kid! If he's anything like my son, it's not the destination that's a disappointment, but the lie. My DS can not handle surprises like that...even if it's a FUN surprise, he will freak out. Lesson learned.This is funny, because Canadians call Winnipeg “WinterPig”; probably the last place you would want to vacation.

The completely sealed, never before opened package of hot dogs in the fridge are ever so slightly expired. Google says they are okay one to two weeks past the “best before” date. Close enough.

We did that too til we got caught....I used to slide down the banister when I was a kid--quicker than taking the stairs down.
