Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

This morning at church I was talking with a guy that's a little bit younger than I am and we started to talk about Walt Disney World. He's never been but he said that he wanted to see Epcot. As he was talking it became clear to me that what he really wanted to see was EPCOT Center. I told him about the changes that have taken place and he was disappointed. You know, It's really interesting. I've had conversations like that before. I'll just leave it at that.

I sometimes wonder how a newbie would react to seeing EPCOT for the first time, in 2017. Most of us have seen EPCOT during its heyday, and many miss the original. I do, that's for certain. Yet, sometimes I wonder if a newbie (who has no previous knowledge about the park) might still enjoy it for different reasons, and wonder if they might see things I don't.

My first trip was in 2002, so I never got to see Epcot in its heyday. What has happened to Epcot really saddens me. I hate that I'll never get to see Epcot as it was meant to be, but I try not to think about that when I'm there and enjoy it for what it is.

My first ever visit was in 2002. I didn't care for Epcot that much as a kid, but as I've gotten older, it's one of my favorite parks. The Future World theme really doesn't fit anymore, but altering things to fit the "futuristic" theme would take away so many great attractions and aspects of the park.

As for WS, I love the theming. I absolutely hate the placement of Frozen in Norway. They should have put that in DHS... adding more attractions to that park and leaving (and updating would be nice) Maelstrom.

So I never saw Epcot in its original form, but I do get pretty nostalgic over Epcot. More so than the other three parks. There are a lot of upgrades they could make... particularly through FW, but I enjoy the park a lot. I really love the Epcot "feel".

I sometimes feel like I am the only person who does not think that Frozenstrom in Norway is a travesty.
The truth is, I think it was a brilliant overlay. Its placement does not affect the exterior of the pavilion at all. In fact, the additions for the M & G enhance the area.

Personal opinion - flame away I can handle it - but I thought Frozenstrom was just okay. I found the storyline disjointed, the movie dated (truly a one and done), and the smell throughout to be musty and off-putting. The addition of Frozen has only enhanced an area that may never have seen improvements otherwise.

Kringla is still Kringla, and Geir is still available for purchase. School Bread still rocks and Hubby still smells good. I be happy.

The addition of these guys was pretty awesome.

World Showcase wise, I am far more upset with the restaurants that have built on the opposite side of the walkway, gooping up the view of the World Showcase Lagoon. So many obstructions. Add in the ubiquitous booths for the festival du jour, and the promenades are ridiculously crowded.

I think the roaming Vikings are a nice addition to the pavilion. I think their interactions with people are pretty hilarious. As for Frozen being added, I know why they did it but part of me misses the Maelstrom. I liked the trolls...."Back, back over the falls..." I think it would have been nice if Disney could have added some of the Frozen characters and still made the ride about Norway like they did in Mexico. But since the Frozen gang is from Arendelle that probably wasn't going to work. Overall, I guess the Frozen addition is a nice new experience. I still would like them to add more fog and a blast of cold air as you leave the ice palace and see Marshmallow.

Probably, I'm the only one here who doesn't follow baseball at all, but I know that @Nemo14 likes the Sox. It's opening day in Boston for them this afternoon, so I hope they win for you, Nemo. :)

A pal of mine is going, and I've been trying to get him to try the newer food options such as the poutine, or the lobster/steak roll. I'm just curious to hear a review of the new menu. But knowing him, he'll get his usual hot dog and peanuts. (Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I saw the photos on the news of the other food and it looked pretty tasty.)

As much as I love to be able to "flame" you on as many occasions as I can find, I'm afraid that I am completely in agreement with you.

I've only seen the ride itself via You Tube, but, I think it is fine and certainly better then the oil platforms from Maelstrom. I don't understand the knit picking about whether or not it is about Norway. I seems that in a grouping of Theme Parks that primarily are fantasy and done with Disney type reality, it fits perfectly in that location. The interior is far superior to the old one, the meet and greet, even though I don't do that, looks to be very well done with the demanded, from Disney, attention to detail.

I do understand the historical aspect that people get upset about referring to the changes from the "original" Epcot, but, this in particular, to me, is a prime example of the fans bending over to pick up a penny while the dollars go flying over their heads. I don't ever want to go to the Walt Disney World Museum of Old Crap. Change and improve. In my opinion, this case it is exactly what they did. Many thing were well done in Epcot and many things have remained basically the same, but, not everything was a gem, just like in life. Many things started out great but faded with time.

Updating Epcot doesn't have to mean Magic-Kingdoming it.

Agreed. I think Nemo was a giant miss, but I personally think the girls were a giant hit.

I also think Frozenstrom, or any other well done Frozen-based ride would overwhelm Fantasyland right now. Just look at the waits for SDMT.

Where else would you have put Anna and Elsa?
