I pay only my rent with a check. The only reason why I do that is because they want to charge me a fee to make a direct payment. (I'm sure, I'm not going to pay them to have access to my accounts). Everything else is either paid by credit card (which is paid on line) or just flat out paying on line. I have a Debit card that is attached to my checking and Money Market account that will pay me 2.4% on the cumulative balance of those two accounts on balances up to $200,000.00 if I use the Debit card 30 times per month. I buy everything with it even if it is a pack of gum. It saves me from having to constantly be seeking out cash and I make money by using it. I love technology. I haven't actually set foot in a bank in about three years. I even just got pre-approved for a loan without even leaving my office or telling them what I was going to buy.As @PUSH mentioned, there's still quite a few people who write checks (that's cheques to you!). I don't carry them around with me, but I do use them once a month to pay my regular monthly bills.
Whenever I go to the grocery store, I usually see a few people at the register who write out checks. I'd rather just go to my bank's ATM and get cash beforehand, and pay that way, but that's just my preference. I flat out refuse to use a debit card linked to my bank account. I only use credit cards for larger purchases. There you have it. More information than you or anyone else cares to hear about!

Given that this thread has some sort of Bob Saget / Full House theme at the core, I'd like to point out that today is also John Stamos's 53rd birthday. I know what we will be serving him for a celebratory meal.
And it is also Bill Clinton's 70th birthday!
So now we have some musical entertainment for after the meal...
