Today was the worst day ever. Right from the beginning of the day, we could not accept credit/debit cards or checks. This lasted about 3 hours into my shift. Finally everything was back up, except the rewards system. All was fine and dandy until about 2:50 when everything went back down again. Some stores couldn't even open because they couldn't log into any system or into any registers. Unfortunately we weren't that lucky.

Well, that's no fun.
Who the heck still accepts cheques? Better yet, who the heck still writes them?

Every time I sell a house to someone born in 88 or later, I can only take their initial bank draft, and then have to wait while they order their first ever chequebook.

Did the other stores have to close down for the day?

There are a lot of people who still use checks. We run them through electronically, so they don't have to fill anything out.

From what I know, we were the only store in town with problems, and it was an internal issue. The Kmart 20 miles from here called several times seeing how things were going, because they couldn't even open the store. They had no way of getting money in the registers, or processing a transaction. I'm not sure what they did, but it would have been a great time to actually get things done. Freight, straightening, layouts, really anything. No customers to distract you.

I'm making supper for Hubby's b'day.

It's a new fool-proof recipe. Absolutely impossible to mess up. I messed up right from the get-go by dropping the box of rice. Some went into the liquid; most went on the floor.

I ended up adding another whole box of rice, and guesstimating how much extra liquid to add.

It's called "no-peek chicken", so I won't even know for another 2 1/2 hours how badly I messed up.

But rules are meant to be broken.

I don't think I have Kemp's here. :(

I'm a big fan of the Green frozen yogurts that are starting to pop up. They're really expensive though.

We only started getting in Kemps here in MA (Kemps is from Minnesota) a few years ago, and I was psyched. It's frozen yogurt that you can buy in the grocery store, and it that tastes as good as ice cream, as far as I'm concerned. As for Green's, they had a location north of the city but it closed, so I never got to try it. I saw pictures of it--looked like an interesting setup inside, though. The appearance was that of a trendy, designer yogurt shop.

No matter how it comes out, just tell him it's the thought that counts! :cat:

As @PUSH mentioned, there's still quite a few people who write checks (that's cheques to you!). I don't carry them around with me, but I do use them once a month to pay my regular monthly bills.

Whenever I go to the grocery store, I usually see a few people at the register who write out checks. I'd rather just go to my bank's ATM and get cash beforehand, and pay that way, but that's just my preference. I flat out refuse to use a debit card linked to my bank account. I only use credit cards for larger purchases. There you have it. More information than you or anyone else cares to hear about! :p

Our neighbor is having a new driveway put in today and I must say that the workers in this construction company are some of the rudest people I've ever met. Right now there are 2 dump trucks parked in the middle of our street as well as a big trailer, so traffic is limited to squeezing through a single narrow lane. They dumped the load of gravel right in front of our house, knocking a couple of limbs off our tree, and then proceeded to literally dig up our front lawn with a shovel.

It's called the "let's block the road and we don't care syndrome". I've seen it before, too. Either that, or the guys that drive those rigs never learned how to park them.

Last Saturday, I was driving down a little skinny, side street, and a furniture store truck was parked in front of a house. The guys were bringing out a sofa from the back ramp of the truck. This big, honking truck was parked out into the street, a good 3 feet from the curb (with no other cars parked in front or behind, for quite some distance). o_O  Now, I was in my dinky Chevy Aveo, and I slowed down to about 5 mph and could barely get by this truck--(which was a miracle in itself, considering I can't drive for carp). Any car larger than mine would never have made it past that truck and would have had to reverse direction. Sometimes, I just can't stand people.

It got worse before it got better. At one point there were piles of dirt, stone, and debris totally blocking the road. I was outside talking to another neighbor when we saw them do that, and the neighbor said to me, "You better ccall the fire department". All of a sudden they started moving the piles.

You know what's funny?
I still write checks for all my bills, and I either use checks or cash in stores. I have a debit card, but I've only used it once (just to see if it worked).

The only check we write is for our water bill. And that is because the county doesn't have online payment for it. Lol.

Ha! That reminds me of the time here on our street, when a truck drove down the street and snapped an overhead electrical wire that connected across the street, to the house. (In fairness to the driver, the line was sort of sagging, and probably should have been replaced a long time ago.) Anyway, we called the electric company and told them to send out someone to fix the fallen wire in the road. Hours went by--no electric truck.

So the landlord called the cops and told them that there were children playing on the street not far from a "live" electrical wire down in the road, and the electric company had not come to fix it. Within 10 minutes, two electric trucks came, followed by a police cruiser directly behind them . . . (But here's the best part--there never were any kids playing on the street!) :D :D
