Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

JenniferS

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
For two days Rob Ford lay in repose at City Hall. People stood in the rain for hours to pay their respects.
And today, on a brilliant sunny day, thousands more followed the funeral procession as it made its way from City Hall to St. James Cathedral.

RIP, Rob.

I wish I could celebrate Take a Walk in the Park day, but sadly it is raining today. And last week when I was in WDW I saw pins for Doctor's Day, I thought that was stretching the merchandise a little.

It's beautiful here - one of those days you walk outside and can't open your eyes for 5 minutes because it's too bright. Still a little chilly for me (and we're supposed to get really cold this weekend) but definitely not a day I want to be stuck in the office!!

The guy @Lucky posted is Al Haig - he was Secretary of State under Reagan and mistakenly announced to reporters that he was in charge after Reagan was shot (and in surgery - with everyone unsure his status). According to the Constitution, the VP is in charge if something happens to the President (and then the Secretary of State).

More info if you are in a reading mood:

I typed out almost the exact same response, but, you were quicker on the draw then I was.:(:)

Didn't they determine though that the Speaker of the House would follow the VP in rank?

Enjoy the weather! Hopefully it will still be nice when you are done with work. We are supposed to get colder this weekend too, but at least it isn't supposed to rain, so the walk with the dog will still be somewhat okay.

From Wikipedia...

In 1981, following the March 30 assassination attempt on Reagan, Haig asserted before reporters "I am in control here" as a result of Reagan's hospitalization, indicating that, while President Reagan had not "transfer[red] the helm", Haig was in fact directing White House crisis management until Vice President Bush arrived in Washington to assume that role.

Constitutionally, gentlemen, you have the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State in that order, and should the President decide he wants to transfer the helm to the Vice President, he will do so. He has not done that. As of now, I am in control here, in the White House, pending return of the Vice President and in close touch with him. If something came up, I would check with him, of course.

The US Constitution, including both the presidential line of succession and the 25th Amendment, dictates what happens when a president is incapacitated. However, the holders of the two offices between the Vice President and the Secretary of State, the Speaker of the House (at the time, Tip O'Neill) and the President pro tempore of the Senate (at the time, Strom Thurmond), would be required under US law (3 U.S.C. § 19) to resign their positions in order for either of them to become acting President. Considering that Vice President Bush was not immediately available, Haig's statement reflected political reality, if not necessarily legal reality. Haig later said,

I wasn't talking about transition. I was talking about the executive branch, who is running the government. That was the question asked. It was not, "Who is in line should the President die?"
