My grandma doesn't actually look that bad today. She has some bruises from where the IV and stuff was in her, but all of that's been taken out now. She's been sitting up most of the day, and I guess the internal bleeding has stopped. They have her on pills now that the IV is out. Sounds like she could be coming home tomorrow, but she'll need a walker to get around. Not sure if they're going to move her bed to the downstairs bedroom or not.

I think at some point they're going to have to do surgery on her heart, but I'm not sure. Nobody really knows what's going on...
I honestly think they need to check if its really worth it or not.
Noone likes to increase the suffering way too much.

For example.. why give radiation/chemo to a man who is definitively going to die in 1 year or so by having cancer spread everywhere (metastasis) ?
I honestly think the man would choose to have 1 active year than 2 being miserable by chemo (as an example).

When there isnt much to do, there isnt much to do :(

No we do...just generally by ourselves (although I still drag my mommy food shopping with me from time to time!)
HAH, I actually drag my mother to help me choose some clothes.
I'm honestly a beach man.. so I'm awful at selecting formal or semi formal clothing.

Silence! I keeeeel you.
ohh man, that is my favorite character of Dunham.
Ahmed the dead terrorist "Its just a flesh wound!".

And, the Gee Bee always kinda' reminds me of the Russian I-16 that came out in the mid 30's and was used at the very beginning of WWII. :)

If I remember, wasnt the Gee Bee inspired in a similar plane earlier? big giant engine and cockpit way in the back.

Even my son was telling me about the goings-on in Chicago.
I said, "Are you sure Chicago? And not Detroit?"

He definitely confirmed Chicago, and went on to give me all the details. And of course, all the reasons why.
You know - because he's a teenager who knows everything!

On an unrelated note, his hero, Marc Emery is being released from a U.S. jail today.

Today was another bad one in Chicago as a Mom of 5 and pregnant was shot on an expressway and has passed.
The more I pondered it the more I believe a fresh set of eyes on the problem might be good by bringing in the State Troopers. For any of those that are long time watchers of Persons of Interest, some say the sub-plot of that show "HR" was derived from Chicago. The things they have tried have failed so bringing in someone else to get this under control again might help. Maybe.

Me, I get annoyed when WE sent troops to other countries to stop the violence and yet this continues on here with a higher death rate per day. Go figure.

Rant over.

We were in Buffalo this time last year, and Son #2 was in the Regal Cinema washroom at the same time as a guy who had a handgun tucked into his waistband while standing at the urinal.
He made no attempt to hide it, and even exchanged a few words with my son.

My son was freaked right out.

Things are not perfect up here, but the gun culture is different.
Handguns are illegal. Period.
There was a tragic shooting in Toronto this week that left three dead, bringing our YTD total up to 22.

I really hope Chicago can get things under control soon. My son went there on a school trip two years ago, and fell in love with the city. My Hubby has been there many times, and says it's a fabulous place.

That part of your post made me laugh. Through college their brains are still developing and they have all this information being feed into their brains by bias people in any which direction. Then they have others pumping their brains with additional bias info from clubs, meetings and whatnot and with the brain not fully developed they believe they have the answer to almost everything.

But my hope for you is when those brains finally stop maturing (science says average 25) the critical thinking starts to kick in any they really do sort information better. Until then keep looking for them to sum up things in a neat little package and make determinations at a drop of a dime 'cause as you say they know EVERYTHING!

And then one day you will be stunned when they knock it off and give long thought, think things through and stop driving you nuts. My son was about 24 when I stopped banging my head into the wall. He was always a good kid but boy he knew more than the authorities on any given topic back then. 'Till then I'll pray you let them live that long.

Gun control is a very hot topic down in the US. People feel strongly each way, and without sharing my opinion on the topic, I doubt we will see any major ban on guns in the foreseeable future... just because there are so many who are opposed to regulations on guns.

I would find that off-putting too. Especially after the Dark Knight shooting. People don't really walk around showing off their guns around here either.

Thanks. I really do love parts of Chicago. My niece has a very upscale condo in LIncoln Park and my DD and I head to to that area along with the Mag Mile. We also go to the Museum campuses too. We do our best to stay out of dicey areas but you just don't know. We take trains in, stay out of parking garages and do what we can. I never carry a purse or wear jewelry. I was born in Chicago and lived there for a short while when I was a child but my Mom knew she needed to get us out of the area we were in. It was originally an Irish neighborhood mostly of newer immigrants but it was rapidly changing. My Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle stayed but it was not a good choice in the long run.

Canadians tend to show off their guns.

Ever since my kids were little (okay, I do it to Hubby too), we have always played this game called "Pokey Pit", where I give them a little ticklish poke in their bare "underpit".

Sitting alone in the living room, I saw this pic and immediately said aloud, POKEY PIT!

Hubby, not quite asleep yet, calls down, "What?"
