So, the wife and I's anniversary is July 1st, Tuesday, so we decided to have our anniversary dinner last night. We went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It was my wife's first time going and she enjoyed it just as much as I was hoping. I called ahead for reservation and to tell the restaurant why we were coming in. They had a table dressed for us with rose petals and an anniversary card. Everyone greeted us with "happy anniversary" and the overall service was excellent. The food, delicious! I had the steak of course, 16oz NY strip, and it was perfect. The wife had BBQ shrimp with mashed potatoes and we both had asparagus with hollandaise sauce for a side. We were planning on ordering the bread pudding for dessert, but the restaurant surprised us with a comp dessert of bread pudding, ice cream and almond chocolate bark. Delicious also! Overall, great experience and great food. We really enjoyed the evening.

Congratulations! You made my mouth water.

My brother came over for a little visit (and to borrow money, but he actually pays me back, so no biggie), and we took our teas outside.

I am going to love my new backyard oasis.
Should have used some Off Skintastic first though.

I take a can of OFF fogger and spray that around about 10 minutes before I go out. It helps. Then I take a Yankee Candle and put it on the little table, makes it smell so nice.

Update on the car:
Remember how I said I hit a pothole Thursday? Well, it damaged the rim, but not the tire. The rim got repaired, everything seemed normal. Then we noticed today that the front right tire is bulging out. The flat tire was the back left tire. I'm pretty sure I avoided the pothole with my front tire but not the back, so we don't know if the pothole caused it or if I damaged it by hitting another pothole (they are rampant here after this winter; my mom said when I got home that she wasn't angry at all and has been worried about doing the same thing herself) or what. But my parents are thinking of replacing the car completely because it's beginning to nickel and dime them. It's got so much wrong with it; the passenger window doesn't work, the driver's heated seat is broken, the steering column is squeaky, it always thinks the engine coolant is low (which stranded me at school one day when it really was low...), it has a slow oil leak, the passenger side door doesn't lay flat thanks to an accident about ten years ago, it smells slightly mildew-y inside even though I've steam cleaned it several times, the leather on the driver's seat is cracking, the fabric on the sunroof's shade will no longer stay glued, but oh how I love that car. It's an Oldsmobile Aurora and has a V8 engine. I zip around in that car so much. I really don't want to give it up. Hoping my parents just replace the tire for now and let me have it for at least the summer while they wait for a good deal on a new car. Otherwise, my mom and I will have to share her car. That means I get it for work, going on doctor's appointments and to PT, and maybe a few social outings, and then I'll also get to run her errands. :grumpy: She and I both know that's how it works. "Oh, could you stop at Target on the way home from work?" "Oh, well, you look better than I do (so many zingers for that line, Mom) so you go to the grocery store." On Monday she's letting me have the car for the morning and for PT, but I have to go get my brother's friend too so he can come for a sleep-over. And my guess is I'm probably going to have some other errand in between.

Yup, need to talk to Dad about just getting the tire fixed...

I've never been attached to a car as much as I was my first one. Pixie Dust, hope you can keep her a little longer. As for the dampish smell you might want to try DampRid, Walmart, Target, take one and shove it under a seat. They are cheap, worth a try. I put them in storage lockers when we store my kids college stuff over the summer vs dragging it all home.

That sounds lovely. I'm glad you had such a memorable time. :)

And, as far as that tired thing goes...
I'll never forget thinkin' I was gonna' die after my first 3 hour TDS shift completely on my feet, at age 45, after I had previously been sittin' on my beeeeehind at work for about 30 years. :in pain:
But, then about a year and a half later, I did 18 hrs. and 45 mins. between 2 jobs during the holidays with only about 5 mins. to throw down a sandwich without battin' an eye.
You're young yet. You can do it. ;) :)
The standing at work thing wasn't specifically what I was talking about, but it didn't hurt. After work I was standing most of the night, and was running away from fireworks once they were lit off.

Ha! It is at that. While in college and immediately after I worked at Ohare. At times during bad weather I never came home for days. But when I graduated college I had enough money to put down on a condo. When I went from air to marine, if a barge hit a bridge at 3am in morning my phone rang and I had to get my tooshie out of bed and drive to Puducah, IL. Nothing like a 5 hour drive in the middle of the night.

@PUSH Just thought you'd like to hear the flip side of scheduling. My DD does all the scheduling for the aquatic department of a large park district, cashiers, lifeguards, swim instructors, aerobic instructors, rehab clinical therapy classes, most of which are 15-24 years old. She has about 300 part time employees and 60 or more on shift at a time. She does what she can for legitimate conflicts like summer school classes or to schedule siblings together, stuff like that. Beyond that she doesn't concern herself with what they place on their availability because she knows most of these employees are students and don't likely have real issues like child care to schedule around and that is why they are hired. Their first shift is at 445 am and the odds of a student having an honest conflict that keeps them from working that shift is very small and it must be filled. She is young herself and can relate to the fact that most students put on their availability that they can't work early in the morning especially on weekends as she too would love to sleep. Ultimately they all get some of these undesirable shifts. For those who have an honest conflict that truly keeps them from working bring in the documentation to support the conflict and then they just give them that shift on a different day. Most of her new hires learn to cope, a few quit and then she trains more to replace the ones that choose to leave, it is part of the weed out process. Most of them choose to stay as they need the job/money and a work history for their resume. Scheduling is not easy especially with students, it takes her 4 days to schedule over 300 employees each month all while keeping in mind 60 employees are on each main shift that have to be filled. They just don't have the luxury of catering to each and every employees wants, they have a facility that must be staffed 361 days a year.

As for your feet, I feel for your pain. I've never had a job that I have not been on my feet most of the day if not all of the day. It takes some getting use to but it gets better the longer you do it. Try purchasing the firm Dr. Scholl's inserts that have arch support. At Walmart for about $6. They really help.
The time isn't the thing that truly bothered me, although it didn't help. If the case is that you can't guarantee you won't get scheduled during the times you want, then that should be said up front. When they advertise it as "you won't ever get scheduled during the times you don't want to work" and then go ahead and do just that, it's going to tick some people off.

@PUSH I think you're right to get in touch with the HR woman, who might be able to intercede, on your behalf, and help you to work out a compromise on your work shifts. It's definitely worth a try.

All I wanted to add to this discussion is that (based upon my own work experiences), I wish I had a nickel for every time something happened at work, that I thought wasn't "fair". There's so much b.s. in every work situation, that you learn eventually to roll with it, while carefully choosing a few, selective battles. We can all empathize with what you're going through; it's amazing what we endure, at times, for a paycheck . . .
There's so much BS (I guess this could mean Bob Saget) not only in work environments, but life in general. To me, it's better to post a rant here than rant at my bosses. I haven't reread my posts, but I'm just going to assume I had some stupid thoughts that I'm probably over by now. I still think that the employer should let people know that schedules aren't guaranteed to be within the employee's desired times, rather than advertise it as guaranteed. For me, it's more of an honesty issue than anything else.

Yeah, go talk to HR. Scheduling you for hours other than what you specified is not good. You especially don't want them doing that once you start school. It could be a clerical error...but of you let them know the hours you could work during the interview process and they wanted you to work those hours, didn't tell you, and hired you anyway, that's not good and not something a reputable company would do.

Sometimes. Box stores and fast food venues and similar type jobs are generally very reputable firms but most know going in they are not the best firms to be employed by, they are driven by bottom line and answer to stock holders, much like Disney World. When my son did the college program the only time that wasn't considered fair game by the scheduler was the hours he was at Disney University, beyond that the students worked in some positions through the night cleaning up stores, getting up early to start cooking those staple breakfast foods, brewing coffee etc. Some of the resorts had 24 hour venues for quick bites to eat. The grunt hours went to the students and international program employees. He worked varying shifts from either opening or closing. He was fortunate to where he landed over most of his friends but he came into the program with skills that set him apart from the balance of the CPs. Many of his good friends were not as fortunate. Disney didn't care if you didn't like to work late or get up early. If they were busy they extended your hours if they kept parks open later than scheduled, still Disney is considered a reputable company.

This is the second straight week I don't have a photo for the photography contest! I have a couple with the American flag in them for this week, but they're not good.
