When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Mini-rant ahead!!

Okay, this is the first time I'm going to say this... I hate my job. Not the actual job itself, but the hours. I told her during the interview that I didn't want to work Sunday mornings, but the person who schedules (a dumb ) put me down for not only 6am tomorrow, but 4am next Sunday!!! That's going to throw off my entire sleep schedule. The next time I see the person who interviewed me (who's actually very nice and understanding), I'm going to either tell her I don't want to work Sunday mornings, or Sundays in general. There's no way I'm going to work 4am every Sunday when I specifically said I don't want to. It also makes me wonder why they had me select what hours I was available to work when I applied online. Nowhere in there did I say I wanted to work 4 or 6am.

End of rant.
I'm sorry it took so long to respond.
I was laughing. And laughing.

There are plenty of new employees out there who are scheduled only during the hours they said they are available for.

Sorry @PUSH but it appears that everyone has reached their sympathy level as of yesterday. You will have to wait until they get recharged. Then I'm sure everyone will be right on board with you.

Anyone else think of that scene in Private Benjamin where Goldie Hawn says that she joined a "different army" - one with condos and private rooms?

Are you the newest hire?
No, there have been several hired since I joined. Even the "veteran" employees say that they said they didn't want to work Sunday (mornings) when they were hired, and they were granted it. I think it's just a problem with the manager. He started doing all the schedules about 4 weeks ago, and I haven't heard one good thing about him. Other employees say that he schedules people during times they don't want to or can't work. And these are ones that have been there for months (which is about as long of tenure as you get where I work, there are a handful of part-timers that have been there for a year or more).

If they keep scheduling me for those hours after I talk to her, I'll be keeping my eyes open for other jobs.
Like I said...stick to it and you will eventually get seniority at this job enough to NOT have to work those hours.

The LAST thing you want on your resume is a lot of job changes because you didn't like the assigned hours.
I mean, I see both sides of it. On one hand, you don't want to jump around to a bunch of different jobs at once (I work partially in an HR department. We throw resumes that have a bunch of jobs like that on them in the trash). On the other hand, if you said, "I absolutely do not want to work these hours. If these are the hours, I will look for a different job," during an interview and you were not informed, in a contract or otherwise, that you would have to work those hours, that's not right either; my company would certainly not do that. I would go talk to someone in HR about it. At least stick it out for six months. And be willing to compromise, like perhaps you don't want an early morning shift but you'd take a later shift, or that you'd be willing to do it every other week.

If turnover time is only a few months then if you stick it out you will be the manager and controlling the fate and schedules of those below you.

I totally get the whole thing about not wanting to have a bunch of quit jobs on your resume. I certainly would love it if they would say "Okay, we'll stop scheduling you for these hours" when I go in to talk to them. I don't mind the work, and most of my co-workers are pretty nice and friendly. The biggest thing that irks me is that they asked me if I could work those hours, I said no, and they still scheduled me for those hours. To me that just says that they don't value their employees enough to listen to them.

It could have just been a mix-up during the interview process, too, where she just checked the wrong hours on the sheet. I'm certainly hoping that's the case.

That was for part-timers only. It's actually not that uncommon for places around here to only have employees stay on for 5 or 6 months at a time. With the majority of the workforce being college students, I can see how that would happen.

Yeah, go talk to HR. Scheduling you for hours other than what you specified is not good. You especially don't want them doing that once you start school. It could be a clerical error...but of you let them know the hours you could work during the interview process and they wanted you to work those hours, didn't tell you, and hired you anyway, that's not good and not something a reputable company would do.

I'm not sure if she's in on Sundays, but I should be able to talk to her on Tuesday (which is my next shift after tomorrow's). I'm pretty sure she'll be able to help me out. She's been nothing but helpful since I've joined.

I'm pretty tired right now. Yesterday I was on my feet for most of the day, the only time I sat was to eat, ride in a car, and a bit by the fire pit.

The fireworks went well, almost. The Roman candles were terrible, but the big stuff was awesome. After the fireworks were done, someone took the bag full of the empty cardboard boxes (at least they thought that was all that was in there) and threw it in the fire. They didn't hear when we told nobody to touch that bag because it had a defective firework in there (it didn't go off when lit, but it was still full of explosives). All but two people were over by where we lit the fireworks off, and luckily the two who were by the fire didn't get hurt. They were lucky it wasn't one of the big ones we had.

And now bringing it back to the tired thing I mentioned at the beginning of this post. I would take a nap, but then I wouldn't want to sleep tonight. The reason I need to sleep tonight is I have to work at 6am tomorrow, so I have to get up super early. The good news is, I will be done with work at 10:30 tomorrow morning. But is it worth it?

No. Not at all.

Oh boy. The fireworks thing reminds me of somethin' that happened to me way back in the day.
I was still in HS and livin' at home, and it was summer. I was out front juggling a soccer ball in just shorts, no t-shirt and no flip flops ( I was off work that day) and some "buddies" of mine came by in the one guys new car. A Mercury Marquis, if I remember correctly.
Anyway, they talked me into hoppin' in and goin' for a quick ride for some "fun".
Well, I soon found out what the fun was, and, they had also been knockin' back a little of grandmas cough medicine.
They were drivin' around shootin' off bottle rockets at people from the car via droppin' 'em in a PVC pipe with duct tape on the bottom being held out the car window. Well, as soon as I found out, I immediately demanded to be dropped back at home. "Wait, dude, just one more!" was the answer.
What happened after that, was just plain nuts. I was in the back seat and the guy next to me lit and dropped another bottle rocket into the PVC pipe for launching. He had the pipe between his legs and above an open bag of another gross (144) bottle rockets. When he dropped it in to be fired off, it dropped straight through and into the bag and he didn't realize it. The other rockets had burned the duct tape on the bottom to the point where there was a hole sufficient enough to let the next lit rocket drop down into the bag. Nobody realized it until too late.
The whole world started to blow up!!!!! It was just insane. The 2 of us in the back seat tried to bail out ASAP, but, were hindered by the guy in the front seat who was at first reluctant (it was a coupe). Eventually, the 3 of us bailed out onto the road (doin' about 20 mph) as the whole car became engulfed. The driver held out a little longer until, he too, eventually bailed. Luckily, it happened in an area of the neighborhood that was still being developed and not very populated at the time.
Anyway, when the driver finally bailed from his new ride, all you could see was explosions and smoke trailing out of the car as it jumped the curb, went down and through a dry creek bed and was finally stopped when it wrapped itself around a tree on the opposite bank, and was still exploding all over the place.
He was layin' in the street screamin' while the rest of us drug ourselves to the curb to assess our own personal, physical damage. Remember, all I was wearin' was shorts. Although, fortunately, none of us was seriously injured, it still wasn't pretty.
You should have seen the look on my parents faces when the first responder that took me home, after I was field dressed, dropped me off.
This one will never be forgotten by ANYONE in my family. It comes up often, because, obviously, it was just so friggin' nuts!

And, as far as that tired thing goes...
I'll never forget thinkin' I was gonna' die after my first 3 hour TDS shift completely on my feet, at age 45, after I had previously been sittin' on my beeeeehind at work for about 30 years. :in pain:
But, then about a year and a half later, I did 18 hrs. and 45 mins. between 2 jobs during the holidays with only about 5 mins. to throw down a sandwich without battin' an eye.
You're young yet. You can do it. ;) :)
