On the Cruise, they actually begged people using a public announcement both on the ship and on the TV not to steal the towels!

The cruise director went into "Sha-nay-nay" mode...and I kid you not, he said it like this...

"Yes, girlfriend, I went to Cozumel, yes girlfriend, I went to Grand Caymen, and here's my towel to prove it"

I had an aunt who always took the soaps from the hotels and whenever we'd visit she'd give my daughter a couple when she was little. when my aunt passed away and they were cleaning out her house, they came across a big bag of them in her closet with my daughter's name on it. It was so cute.
