Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
My dad's phone and my phone cost less than $25 a month. My mom's cost about $30 per month. Landline is bundled with cable and internet, so it's around $25 per month. That's less than we would pay for all of us to get cell phones. My dad hates cell phones and only has one because my mom and I insist. There's no way he's paying for a contract plan. I agree with him that cell phones are perhaps the biggest rip off ever.
I hate my phone and do not want to be tied to it for all phone calls. It barely makes phone calls. It also remains it my room and sometimes I have to call it because I haven't looked at it in days. So I prefer a landline, which I can answer anywhere in the house.
I don't think I've ever heard that said by someone of your age demographic. Until my kids went away to school I think I could carry it in my pocket for days without a peep except during swim seasons. I'd get a text when they were 20 minutes to be picked up. My DS 26 had a cell since he was 15, going into high school. My DD had one she took to school in 4th grade. She was in a full leg cast, the disability bus picked her up in a wheelchair and the bus broke down one day and they didn't call the school or me and she was trapped for over an hour. A friend saw her sitting on the bus on the side of the road and called me. I drove and pulled her off the bus (in snow) and the school staff met me at the school. I was livid. After school she got to pick out her very first phone. It was against school board policy and I as a member of the board should have honored that but I didn't care. We rewrote the policy.
My DH and I are on the same plan and we don't come close to using our data unlike my kids. My DD went to bed tonight 'cause her phone was almost dead and her charger is in her bed.
