If it's for a youtube account and you're logging on with a gmail address, it's possible the password is the same as your email.

I had this account before you needed to log in with your email. It's considered a "legacy" account because I haven't used it since May 2009.

EDIT: It says to use my username instead, but I can't remember the password.

Youtube integrated their older and newer accounts as part of the Google+ rollout last year.

The unified login platform takes getting used to.

To restore the password for an older (or frankly a newer) account, have you tried this?

If you put in your username, they will text you a confirmation code that you will need to enter. At that point you should be able to reset your password.

That's what I've been trying, but I don't get anything involving texting. It brings me to a screen where they can contact me via another email address (which I have). Then they bring me to a "Google Account Recovery" screen that asks for the last password I remember (which is the password I'm trying to recover), the date I lasted logged in (don't remember), and the month and year that I created the account (May 2008).
