My mom has called me on 6 different occasions this week saying that is super blizzard with 30 inches of snow is coming here. Everytime she calls it is a different date and I find nothing about it online on any respectable sites. I am supposed to get 3 to 5 inches of snow tomorrow, but that is a non-issue at this point in places that are not Atlanta.
I asked my mom where she got her info, and she said Facebook. I asked if it was a legitimate page, and she said it was just someone commenting. I told her that's probably not the most reliable source...

Sometimes I'm very glad my mom is not on FB...

So, I actually know what happened (rare that I know anything!!)- courtesy of a friend who is somewhat in the weather business. Middle of last week, there was a "maximum total precipitation forecast" published by one of the major weather sites (pretty sure it was Accuweather) that was for the entire coming week. It was making a number of assumptions - that all the moisture that is expected in the atmosphere would precipitate as snow in the NorthEast - which amounted to 30+ inches of snow. Some genius Facebook user shared the picture with the comment "Big storm coming next week!" which then went somewhat viral. The original website removed it and a decent number of weather people on FB have spent a week trying to refute it.

Basically, they really do expect about 3 inches worth of moisture in much of the eastern US this week and if it is cold enough and the snow ratios are about 10:1, we could get 30 inches of snow in a week. Since tomorrow's east coast storm is supposed to be only at an 8:1 snow ratio, that is not looking likely. The coming weekend storm (this coming Saturday) is still quite variable in terms of moisture and temperature.

Weather geek hat is now removed and music teacher who would not mind a day off tomorrow hat is back on.

Gah...you just made me spend 30 minutes reading about that darn movie and Limahl

We made our daughter watch it about a month ago. And then we realized that as much as we may have loved it 30 years ago, it wasn't all that good.... now, that theme song is another thing.

During that era it was awesome...but, yeah, I went back and watched it recently (within the past year or so) and felt pretty much the same. My daughter adores it though!

And, you are right about the theme song.
