Well, Mom's been in bed for 20 minutes now and hasn't come out to ask me what day it is or anything, so maybe she'll sleep well tonight. In any case, I'm heading out while I can.
PUSH, have a safe trip and a great vacation! We'll miss you around here.

It's amusing how the world works. Note, I didn't say something silly, like basketweaving, I spoke of a very active major, Restaurant and Hospitality management. Which IS a VERY popular degree.

Though, now I am in IT, and yes, I am that tough interview (after being burned many times) who will ask them to actually produce something in the interview, rather than telling me all about all the things they learned.

But, with a sheepskin (though it's not printed on sheepskin anymore) they do have the eternal right to 10 years from now say they are experts at something, even if the state of the science has changed. And if they were not majoring in some science, they can play it out even more. My grandfather has had 4 heart attacks, but because he has 3 doctorates, colleges still employ him to work less than 10 hours a week...why? They need his degrees for accreditation.

Not because he's wise, or because he's a great teacher. Nope...they need his certificates.

So, don't think I discount the value of them.

The Government will hire them, left and right, as will educational institutions, for inflated wages...

So, as I said from the get go, I don't object to anyone, EVER, getting a college education. And kudos to them for graduating! I just don't think it is a guarantee of fiscal or even personal success.

I agree, the degree doesn't come with a guarantee. Yet I wouldn't want to send a kid out into the world without one, too many job markets will not even grant the young an interview without a degree. My DS likely wouldn't have gotten farther that loading the Small World Attraction without his degree. A high school diploma isn't the achievement it was in my parents generation. Both my kids will go on for their Masters after establishing themselves for a bit and with the Grace of God with Employers tuition reimbursement.

My DD's University has doubled in price in the last decade. You're right, it is nutty. Unfortunately I can only acknowledge that, I can't change it.

See, your first mistake was going over Super Bowl weekend. That would be a no-no in my house.

Both times the Ravens won I was in Disney. I watched the first time. Didn't the second. Next year I'll be home during Super Bowl, but probably won't watch unless the Ravens or 49ers are in it.

Ugh. So glad my tuition with scholarships is much less and that my brother is 7 grades behind me...

Yeah, they both also had scholarships and my kids are 5 grades apart so they shouldn't have overlapped, but #1 did this thing called the Disney College Program in the middle and then transfered out of a private college to a State University which didn't transfer everything, one being Wisc. and other IL. Now IL is one messed up state and they give you about 10 days notice before tuition is due to say they cut scholarships due to the State defaulting on budget money. Yeah, parenthood is fun stuff.

I watch every year no matter who the teams are. That's the NFL fan in me! Of course it's so much better when the Packers are playing.

I'm usually on my way home during the Superbowl from Disney. So I get to hear the pilot announcing the score. This year maybe I'll watch since I'll be home. Going the first week of January because of school scheduling.
