When will the Hong Kong resort add a shopping district?

I’ve been to every Disney resort on the planet and it feels like such a huge void that the Hong Kong resort is the only one without a shopping district.

Now that the park seems to have its legs underneath it, with quite a bit of positive momentum, is there any plan to add a downtown Disney type shopping area to the resort?

I’d argue this is now the most needed addition to the resort. More than another ride, show, hotel, or even second gate.

The space is reserved for it. Once the spreadsheets say yes I’m sure something will happen; even if initially it’s a gift shop and Starbucks. Something for end of night visits on the way home.

Given the relative isolation and competition with better access, I can’t see a destination product being added unless the resort as a whole is far busier.

I was thinking about this yesterday, if the 2nd park plot gets developed for something other than a 2nd gate (like residential housing), that would add some very local demand for a district like that.

Who knows what HK wants to do with it.

They won’t, the penny’s bay master planning forbids residential housing in penny’s bay. The quarantine facility worked because it was considered a “government building” which is allowed on penny’s bay

If Disney can prove financial benefit of the second gate they will give them the land back
