Our 180 day mark always falls in October. Last year, I had originally booked Carribbean Beach and, as per our tradition, I booked an ADR for our "home" hotel (in this case, Shutters). I don't think I had it booked for all that long before the discounts came out, and I was able to upgrade to the Wilderness Lodge for only 500 dollars more than CBR was going to cost us. So, going by last year's pattern at least, the Spring discounts should be out around November or so. But that's April, not June, and as others have said, Disney doesn't necessarily follow a set pattern for when they release discounts.
As far as the comment about renting points for cheaper, that's true, but it's only true if you're staying at a DVC resort anyway. I just looked into that myself last week. We're currently booked at CBR for this coming April and I checked a website for a reputable DVC point renting outfit. We're paying roughly $2500 for our 10 night stay at CBR next year. According to the site I mentioned, the same stay at the AKL Villas would have cost us just a little bit less than that. However, that's not counting the AP discount which I am hoping to get soon, which I would NOT be able to use to rent the DVC points. So if I get a 35% AP discount, on a $2500 stay, I would be saving around $850. I could choose to upgrade to the WL Villas and rent the points, but then I would be paying MORE than what I am planning to pay for CBR with an AP discount. So if you are booked for a resort already which is either DVC, or has a DVC wing, then yes, it may be cheaper to rent the points than it is to use the AP discount. But if you are staying in a non-DVC resort and want to switch over to the DVC resort to rent points, then you may save a few bucks at best, depending on what resort you're staying at as I just showed, but even if you save money, you won't be saving that much. Maybe if you're booked at a Deluxe Resort that does not have a DVC wing, you might save money by downgrading to a DVC resort and rent points, but other than that, it's not gonna do you much good.
This will be our first time as AP holders and therefore our first time using an AP discount, but from what I understand, AP discounts are 30 or 35 percent off. So what I said should also apply to the general public discounts which are normally around the same amount. If you're talking about a 30% general public discount, my comments should be applicable as well.
