No. If the system detects it, it will randomly cancel one of the conflicting ADRs, not necessarily the one you really don't intend to use.

If you change your mind last minute cancel the ADR you do have and try to find something where you are. Tying up a number of reservations to cover the bases isn't fair to others who also want to eat. It technically can be done, but it's rude and selfish.

Actually, the system has been known for canceling both reservations.

OK I just ran into this problem..bear with me:

We will be there 11-16 September...we had to adjust our trip from Xmas 2013 to now September due to Sequestration..ok on with what I did..we choose This week due to the Limited Time Magic Announcement in October that on Friday Sept 13th the Villians would be unleashed at Hollywood Studios for a dance party until 1 AM (I have a thing for Maleficient...never been able to ge tme picture with here despite numerous attempts..)BUT there has been no announcement from Disney yet..Ive sent emails, called several times and I get various answers from "No Idea" to Yes it might..to yes it is.....the kicker is that on 13 September the 2nd MNSSHP is happening...long story short..I have 2 iteneraries now one with the Villians/one withj MNSSHP in case the Villans doesnt happen...I made ADRS for the VIllians and Nikki made ADRS for the MNSSHP dates..system wont catch it as we used different last names as we arent married. I'll cancel whichever set I need to based on which way we go..I was able to get ticketing to annotate that due to the OCT Limited Time Magic announcement IF the Villians party happens..I will be able to return my MNSSHP Tix..took some doing but it is done...IF the VIllians Party happens an announcement should be made around 13 August more or less from what Ive been told..

I've considered it, but now that they penalize you for forgetting to cancel your reservation, I don't want to risk because I know I'd forget to cancel. i get where you're coming from, though, because some people want to be spontaneous on their trip - where do you want to go today? Where are we are in Epcot around dinner time that we can conveniently stop and grab a bite? Unfortunately, Disney is not forgiving to the spontaneous person. Gone are the days of being able to walk up to a restaurant in Epcot, MK, or anywhere really for that matter in WDW around dinner time and get a table. So, basically, it forces you to plan your entire trip out before you go. Which, is fun for some people - myself included- but for others, being that confined to a schedule can easily ruin a vacation. And, it is definitely stressful to park hop to eat - trust me - I've done it a lot given my DH's affection for Epcot food. So, although I understand the mindset of it's "greedy." It's only greedy because Disney has let the reservation system get out of hand to the point that people can't just have a relaxing fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants trip.

When you make your ADR's do you make back up reservations at other parks?
I never made two sets of adrs . Lotta people do which I guess is their perogative to do so But It just rubs me the wrong way.

With the new system I think Its harder for some people...The system detects what you already have adr's for and wont allow you to make Double reservations.

Im sure there are ways around it and Im sure some people still manage to have 4 different adrs for every meal, everyday of the trip.

Hi there, No, I don't make additional ADR's. I have a really good idea of how the trip is going to go and where we will be on what day. If we go away from that then we just cancel the ADR and see what we can do to get another one. Since ADR's are so hard to get, I also don't want to make more then my fair share so someone else can get them.

Before we make our ADR's we check out menu's, review past experiences and decide what fits our trip plans. So once we make our final decisions, we know definitely which ADR's will be made, we're all set and don't need a back up reservation. No spoiling others calls to find theres no room.
