I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I checked the official site and this sites news page, but when does the new film for O, Canada! open and if it already is what is it like?

I dont think there has been a confirmation that there was going to be a new film for O' Canada. It was just a rumor, but someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.

As of right now, it's the original film from 1982 but hopefully, this will change.

Actually, I understand the the movie opened with the park in 1982, but was created in 1979 (and was also used for Expo '86 in Vancouver).

Regardless, every passing day results in more people thinking Canada is full of people wearing pastel colours and have big hair. It's terrible, because only the people in Quebec look like that...:hammer:

Just kidding - they don't have big 'air...

The Canada pavillion, as nice as it is, really is one big source of humour for myself and many other Canadians. Look at the store...one would think we're okay with raccoons in the rafters of our trading posts (called Wal-Mart), 'live a stone's throw away from beautiful wilderness' (I live in Toronto, the 4th largest city in N. America), and most of Canada is summarized by gardens, a mine shaft, and Off Kilter. Actually, props to OK - they are great!

True it is that the film needs to be redone. Wrong it is to assume that the movie has ever stopped showing. It's still very much there every day.

Although there are rumors that a new movie might be in the cards, as far as anyone knows NOBODY has come forward to pay for a new movie (These things cost multi-millions of dollars to develope)

As to my frequent trips to Canada (living in SE Michigan makes Canada a suburb of Detroit  )...only people in Sarnia have the big hair. In Windsor they still wear pastel. And in Toronto, they all come from somewhere else, including Michigan.

O`Canada! was shot in 1981-2 (Wonders of China started preproduction first, wrapping principle photography in Spring of 1982) and was completed and copyrighted in mid 1982. The version at Expo`86 used most of the current footage, but with a revised soundtrack that had none of Canada (you're a lifetime journey) in it

There was a report of a filing by Disney to shoot a sequel to O' Canada sometime last year. So if that report (which had a link to an official filing for the permit) was correct then one is in the works, but it has not been officially announced. They wouldn't have to close down the pavilion to install the new film as all it would take would be just replacing the film as long as it is still a circlevision film. So they could just do it overnight. I'm hoping if it's in the works truly that it's released as part of Epcot's 25th.

Waaaay back when

I swear, "O Canada!" goes further back than 1981.

In 1967, Montreal hosted the best world's fair, ever - Expo67. Near the geodesic dome of the U.S. Pavilion on St. Helen's Island, the Bell Canada film featured a Walt Disney Circlevision 360 film about Canada.

I remember several scenes... the geese flying up, the jets flying below the cameras, scenes of Montreal, and of course the Mounties riding in a circle.

Ok, here's proof:
"At the first stop, the Bell Telephone Pavilion, the children stood in open-mouthed wonder at being in the centre of a mammoth circular movie on Canada. They watched excitedly as red-coated Mounties seemed to ride over them in a precision drill, gasped as they "followed" a careening police car on a chase through city streets, and gasped again at the serene early-morning beauty of Canada's northland." source: An Expo67 site

When I was in Canada back in October the cast member who spoke to us before the doors would let us into the theater said that they were filming a new version at that time.
