When does Dumbo move?

Is it confirmed that the Dumbos will stay open until the Double Dumbos are ready to go?

I am currently planning my next trip this October, and coming along are three cousins for whom this is their first and possibly only family trip to WDW. I could not recommend to them to wait until FLE is done, as they are already 12 10 and 8 years old and I don't want them to wait to visit until their childhood years are over. Anyway I digress... I would hate for Dumbo to be shuttered on their only trip, even if they feel they're too old to ride it. Does anyone know whether Dumbo will still be open this October?

Never

Yea people felt scammed when their dumbo didnt work and blah blah blah, but it will be 2 entirely different dumbo groups, they arent recylcing the old one. AND the new ones are supposed to have larger capacity each.

at the D23 first anniversary party they said they were recycling the old dumbo.

They also said we would be getting Cinderella and Aurora's homes. Things change a lot. Insiders say new ones with water features. Also allows the other Dumbo to stay open while the others are built. Perhaps using current for parts? Things change so fast, who knows.

The concept art, while being only concept art and some even apparently for another park, does not show a different looking ride. I see no reason to go through the expense of buying an entirely new one if the old one is still doing just fine.

IMO, Disney needs to time it just right b/c Dumbo is one of the most popular and well-known WDW attractions...Big disappointment to many when its closed...

Sorry, but people just need to accept that attractions have to be closed for a variety of reasons. I would even argue that the "once in a lifetimers" that are the stated reason holding off on closures are the ones who lose out the most, as they either get a deteriorated show or still miss out while the attraction is closed for a long refurb that finally just had to happen.

This was my assumption. If they are investing in an expanded Fantasyland, you would think they could drop the little bit of cash it would take to build a new one. The ride currently there has to be at least 25 years old...if not the original from opening day, just refurbished....
Our current Dumbo ride at Magic Kingdom isn't the original. I actually went on the original when i was little. I am 22 years old, and they restructured it to its current look in 1993 (i think i went in '92 and rode the original once, it wasn't nearly as elaborate in terms of decoration as the current one). So it's not quite 20 years old yet. I could see them maybe reusing some parts elsewhere, maybe Shanghai or something. It still seems to function just fine and all and has the usual look that the current gen Dumbo's have with that elaborate center piece of gold, blue, and red.

I never got to ride the Dumbo ride when I was there in '87... I can't wait to come ride it with my kids before they build the new one.

Schedule wise, they could build the new Dumbo with one new spinner, and once complete start operation at the new location with one spinner. Once running close existing Dumbo to relocate leaving the one new spinner open. Then they could dissasemble, move, and reassemble the existing Dumbo. No down time... that would accomplish a reuse of the perfectly good (and elaborate) existing Dumbo spinner while always having the experience open.
