When does Dumbo move?

I know that Disney has yet to set out an official date for the move of Dumbo, and when Toontown having its last day this Friday, we know that we'll be hearing something soon.

When do you predict that we'll be seeing Dumbo move?

IMO, Disney needs to time it just right b/c Dumbo is one of the most popular and well-known WDW attractions...Big disappointment to many when its closed...

I remember reading somewhere that Dumbo will remain open almost right up until double Dumbo opens. The only thing they will be building in the current Dumbo area are the castle walls and some planters or something, which shouldn't take very long to construct. Also, they're in the process of cross-training a LOT of CMs on Dumbo right now due to some shifts in Fantasyland operations, so I don't think it will be going away very soon.

I vaguely remember reading/hearing that the current Dumbo attraction will not be used for the new Dumbo attractions.

This was my assumption. If they are investing in an expanded Fantasyland, you would think they could drop the little bit of cash it would take to build a new one. The ride currently there has to be at least 25 years old...if not the original from opening day, just refurbished....

Even if they use the current ride system in the new attraction, they have to build a new one as well. So there is no reason why they cannot build the new system, install it, and get it up and running before they shut down the current one to move it in next to the new one.

Or install two new ones and close the old one when the new ones open, then refurb the old one and send it to Shanghai.

As an earlier post said, I also read somewhere that they will be putting in 2 NEW Dumbos and THEN close the old one. That being said, when you think about it, THAT'S the only possible way to go! I have never rode Dumbo, but at 45 years old, you will see me on that Elephant! At least just to say I rode Dumbo!
Side Note: I think it would add to the ride if they would have the song, BABY MINE playing as you rode! I think it would be awesome!(or any other music from the movie)

My trip is planned for December 2012 and even though I will be a 45 year old KID, I wil be riding all the rides that I have dreamt and heard about growing up! The after my trip I will be truly happy!

I have never heard that. When was that?

Around 1955, when the park opened.

Apparently they were taken off because they never worked properly.

As far as I can tell, they were kept for almost a decade in non-working condition until around 1963/1964. The Daveland web site has pictures of Dumbo from nearly every year since park opening. Here's a picture taken in June of 1963, when Dumbo still had the articulated ears:

By April of 1964, the ears were in their current fixed positions:

Yea people felt scammed when their dumbo didnt work and blah blah blah, but it will be 2 entirely different dumbo groups, they arent recylcing the old one. AND the new ones are supposed to have larger capacity each.

Is it confirmed that the Dumbos will stay open until the Double Dumbos are ready to go?

I am currently planning my next trip this October, and coming along are three cousins for whom this is their first and possibly only family trip to WDW. I could not recommend to them to wait until FLE is done, as they are already 12 10 and 8 years old and I don't want them to wait to visit until their childhood years are over. Anyway I digress... I would hate for Dumbo to be shuttered on their only trip, even if they feel they're too old to ride it. Does anyone know whether Dumbo will still be open this October?
