When do the summer crowds end?

Does anyone know when the summer crowds usually end at WDW? We are going to WDW in Jan but my wife is pushing to go (she will get no argument from me) one more time for like 4 days this year as we have APs. Just trying to work out a time if it is possible for us to do. Hoping to avoid big crowds but was hoping to go when my daughter is off from school.

Thanks,
Mike

We usually start our trip the Friday after Labor Day and stay for about 10 nights. We think it a wonderful time to go.

I was amazed the first we went during this time. We used to go in June. The crowds are great. We can get through just about everything in MK by about 1:00 pm and that's riding somethings twice!

LAte August, then it gets crowded right before LAbor Day, then drops off again.

Thanks all for the replies.

When you say late August, would this qualify: Arive on Aug 17 and fly home on Aug 21

My daughter is off at that time and it would work for us. The other is the weekend of Labor day, so I would think that would be out then.

Thanks again,
Mike

In 1999 we took a trip right around the time you are talking about. The crowds were real light during the week, but more crowded on the weekend. I was talking to someone in line from Orlando who just trying to get another weekend in before Labor Day weekend. So I guess there were probably a lot of people from FL doing the same too. All in all it was a good trip, but I really hated the heat & humidity!

The only fly in that particular ointment is that the parks (especially MK & Studios) will usually be busier during the weekends anyway, because of the locals.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, but if you're arriving on a Wednesday and leaving on a Sunday, AND if you can Park Hop, AND if you're staying at a Disney resort, I'd...

Chance MK on Wednesday night for the Extra Magic Hours, plus Friday night, as late as it's open and as late as you can stand it.

Epcot on Thursday night for the EMH, and then Saturday afternoon (and maybe night)

Studios during the day Friday, and I think it might have an early morning EMH on Sunday

AK Saturday (and maybe Sunday after the Studios, time permitting).

And don't worry about sleep until the flight home. Stock up on caffeine tablets and have a blast! :D

Yes, I went from the 17th to the 24th once, park was not crowded at all. The longest wait I saw was 30 minutes for Splash around 2pm.

We went last year in the last week of August (around the 27th) and it was fairly quiet, and we're going again this year on the 19th, and hope for the same. The heat around that time of year is another story though (and we live in FL!)
