When did you know you loved Disney?

WDWMagic take away fact: WDW is horrible and you should spend your money at either Uni or DLC.
I never said WDW is a horrible place and I never any money at Uni or DLC. I never went to Universal matter of fact. I think you shouldn't lumping ever one in the same group.

If I didn't like WDW so much, I wouldn't have created the user name WDWfan4ver or go to WDW 13 times enjoying myself.

Well, the story how I loved and appreciated the great Walt Disney World is a much different tale than everyone else's.

You see, the first time I went to Disney World when I was 2 but I hardly have any memories of it. We went again when I was 11 so that my younger brother could see it but in all honesty, it wasn't that memorable. We spent most of our Orlando trip in a park that shall not be named and only two days at Disney and this was during a time where I wasn't the huge Disney fan that I am now. My interest in Disney was revitalized during my mid-teens and I decided to go with my high school class on our senior trip to WDW, which was the first time in seven years I'd got to see WDW and then, I fell in love with the place afterwards. That trip was so memorable words can't describe it. Walking down Main Street and just staring in awe and amazement of Cinderella Castle, getting to meet my favorite characters for the first time at the age of 18 and being able to go on the Disney World rides I wanted to ride for the first time ever. It was truly a feeling of pure happiness and experiencing that feeling made love the place so much and wanting to be go back, which I've been fortunate to do twice in the past four years and hopefully, many more to come!

How awesome that would be to go on a class trip to Disney World...

I also grew up watching WWOC. I remember it was sponsored by "Gulf" oil company, now "BP". My love affair with WDW started in 1976, my first trip. My high school band was in the Orange Bowl parade and we stopped at the MK on the way home. We was also in the afternoon parade while at the MK, a wonderful experience.

August 1977...stepped onto the monorail for the first time. For some reason the most vivid memory I have from six years old is the grandeur and opulence (remember we were in 1977) of approaching and entering the Contemporary resort on the monorail. I honestly think from that time forward I was hooked. A kid from Philadelphia riding a futuristic mode of transportation into a hotel that was like nothing I had ever imagined...remember, the seventies were the era of motor lodges so nothing the likes of the contemporary existed anywhere (at least in my mind).

Thanks for the question...it made me take a trip back in my minds eye to re-live and identify this wonderful moment in time. Boy, I sure wish Walt was still around...or at least the spirit of his influence instead of the current corporate pablum we are being spoon fed.

don't know which came 1st Disneyland book from 1957 that my mom gave to me, Mr. Disney talking about his Florida project on WW of D, or 8mm home movies of 1964 World's Fair, but they had me at "Chip n Dale" parking...

Got to brag. Class trips....11 years old no adults 1976, 13 year old 1978, 1981, 1982 Grad Nite. The 11 year old one with no adults had to be the best time ever, any where. Ran through parade to SM. No lines. We rode SM over and over.

For me it was the first time I stepped foot in the Magic Kingdom. I grew up watching Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color and remembered those segments on his program when Walt was talking about the Florida project and featuring some of the rides and animatronics that he had in store for his guests. And though some say that childhood memories sometimes exceed the expectation of reality, nothing prepared me for my first trip down Main Street USA.

I was floored. I walked in awe as I made my way to the castle and a sea of people flowed around me in haste to what awaited them. It was then that I got it.

The world is divided into two groups of people...those who get it and those who don't.

So when did you know that you loved the experience that is Disney?

I guess it would be 1996 almost 20 years after my first visit. In 1977, we had taken the kids who were 4 and five at the time to Disney World. It was only the MK, and the Contemporary and the Polynesian resorts at the time. We were really young ourselves and had little money, so the sticker shock was a surprise as were all the "type A" pushy parents even back then. I just didn't get the hype.

Fast forward to 1996. My "kids" now 13, 22 and 23 go back with my wife and I for the first time since 1996. WDW is of course built out, we're staying in the now demolished Garden Wing at the Contemporary, not just looking at it and I'm not worried I wont have enough money to feed the family this time. Time to take it all in and enjoy.

The entire trip was incredible. The sights, the sounds, the attention to the smallest detail and the sheer engineering feats everywhere were amazing. Walking into Main Street that first time I finally got it. The whole family seemed to get it on that trip. We've been back about 20 times since then. The younger daughter did the College program in 2001.

We're going back in June for the first time since 2011. We're very fortunate to be able to continue to afford these trips and although some things have changed, both for the better and worse, we are looking forward to it.

Living in Florida I had gone to the Magic Kingdom a bunch. But I fell in love with it the day my wife said yes to my marriage proposal at the restaurant in Cinderella's Castle.

Parents can get in the way sometimes...but not this one...I would have run around with you
