When and where was your first resort stay?

Hey guys! I'm just curious as to when your first visit and resort stay was and what on-site hotel.

My first visit was in 1975 and my family stayed in the garden wings of the Contemporary. It was great. Back then they had a HUGE gameroom filled with video games and pinball machines. They even had the "world's largest pinball machine". I didn't like the pools though. They had two...one round and one square. The pool at the Poly was mich nicer with waterfalls and a slide.

Just curious about your first stay.

Thanks in advance for all the replies!

Let's see, first time I ever went to WDW would be in 1973. First time we stayed on property would be in 1990 at the Swan, and then in 1991 at Port Orleans-French Quarter.

First 2 visits, 1980 and 1984 stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza. First Disney hotel was next visit in 1993 at the Poly. We've been hooked on the Poly ever since. We've also stayed at Contemporary (again this year in July), the GF, Dixie Landings, PO-FQ. My brother who's been more than I has stayed at all of the above plus, Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs.

The first trip we stayed on property was in 1992. We were in the North Garden Wing of the Contemporary. It was beautiful, it was my frist trip to the World since 1978 when there was only the MK.
We had a quiet, sandy beach and hammock just outside of the sliders. I have to agree with the pools though. One small kiddie pool and a boring pool for adults.
The Arcade was great and the snack bar...:slurp: .

My first trip to WDW was in 1988, but we stayed off property. The first trip where we stayed in a resort was 1990 and we stayed at the brand new Caribbean Beach.

Our first time was in 1999, off-site (Downtown Disney area.) We've gone every year since (at least once a year) and stayed at an All-Star all the other times--usually Movies. I love the park feel of the All-Stars. It's like you're staying right in one of the parks.

My first visit was in 1991. We stayed at the Disney villas. Then after that we usually stayed at the Polynesian, and were at All Star Sports in December. Now we might be going again next spring break and staying at All Star Movies!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

My first two trips we stayed off property b/c the MK Resorts were too expensive and we did not know better.

Then in 1988 (I think) Caribbean Beach opened as the first Moderate and we stayed there. Ever since, we have never left staying inside the park, or even thought about it. Eleven trips later, we decided to venture out of CBR and try some others, and now Deluxes are the way to go!

WDW Resorts are the best--once youre on, you never go back off. I cannot tell you how often my parents use that expression to friends. (And of course they dont understand.)

My very first visit was a band trip in 1974. We stayed in Daytona at the Sheraton--it was horrible--I hope it's gotten better. (I'm sorry, but when there are 4 people in the room, you should have 4 sets of towels. And to make it worse, we never got fresh towels during our 4 nights there. Only a teenager on a band trip wouldn't mind re-using a wet towel and sharing it with someone else!)

First on-site trip was 1993--it was a 5th birthday present to my son from my Dad. Stayed at Caribbean Beach, Jamaica, (building ?41?)

...and to address another current thread, I took him out of pre-school for 2 days for this trip. Still full of guilt 11 years later.

Well the first one that I remember was in 1984 I think it was. I was like 4 and we stayed at the contemporary. It seems like my mom told me that it was less than $100 a night then as well. My how things change.:animwink:

My first trip in 1989 was at Fort Wilderness, and we have stayed on Disney property every time. Our favorite so far is Caribbean Beach, but I'm hoping to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Poly on our next trip!!:D

Well my first trip to Disney was when I was 13-14. My family stayed at a Holiday Inn around there but I Am not sure which one. It was OK but I didnt get it at that point.
My second trip to the World was 1993 when I was dating my now ex huband. We stayed off property t the Sheraton that time. I didnt care for the hotel at all. It wasnt a great trip as I seemed to get very motionsick ( or at least that is what it felt like) I stopped eating for a few days ( not a good idea, trust me on that one!!) but even beyong starvation I was still hunting down Mickey & the gang in EPCOT!!!!
The third time seemed to be the charm!!! After my divorce I wanted to go away as I had a ton of vacation time at work that I had to take. My Mom had suggested that we go to Disney for a few days and maybe explore staying on the property as we had never done that. I agreed went to a local travel agent, booked the Carribean Beach and had a great time!! No motion sickness at all with Mom ( it wasnt the motion thing though as I could always go on all the rides, havent figured what it could have been, but there have been no recurrances since) Well I had a grea time!!! I ate fine especially at the Character Breakfast that I did in MGM( right now the area is the Bear in the Big Blue House show) It was so much fun we talked Dad into going the following year and we stayed at the Coronado Springsin '98, '99 was the PO French Quarter, 2000 was the Coronado and Carribean Beach, 2001 was were things start to get fuzzy, I know I did the All Star Movies that year and somewhere else, 2002 I went to the All Star Music, PO Riverside for the first time, and two other places. 2003 I know we stayed at the All Star Music again, PO Riverside, Coronado and Riverside again for December ( Christmas) 2003 has so far consisted of Riverside, Pop Century, and Riverside again. I will be goign to French Quarter in July and hopefully will be doing at least one if not two more trips by the end of the calendar year!!!! Belle

A few trips as a kid with family (of prop, mostly day trips) and then some as a teenager with youth group (just day trips to MK each for about 6 years.)

My hubby stayed at Con when he was a baby and older brother was 3 years old. This was a big thing for them and they both still remember it (at least the pictures.) Hubby still wants to stay there again someday. They also stayed for a few weeks during the summers at FW in the family trailer.

My 1st week long on prop visit was when hubby and I had been married a few years and in grad school, we could not really aford the trip but we did anyway. Spring break March 1996 DL, we fell in love with the place and have been back yearly since then. We love staying on prop and joined DVC after a Dec 2001 trip.

You can see sig for the rest of the trips, we are hooked.
