What's with the wait times!? (hint.. they're low)

I have two friends there and they are having a ball. First time into GE, the parks low waits and they have already done SR 3 times and hit up nearly every major ride in the park already. They got there at opening thinking it was going to be completely slammed. Now they are at DCA enjoying everything there, will do all the night stuff and plan to get into GE the last hour of the night and shut it down.

They are probably having the time of their lives tonight! It's 11:00pm and the fireworks and second Fantasmic! are now over, Disneyland is open another hour until Midnight, and almost everything except Millennium Falcon is a walk-on!

Pirates, Splash Mt., Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Thunder Mt., Small World, Submarines, All C and D Tickets - 5 Minutes
Hyperspace Mt., Matterhorn Bobsleds, Star Tours, Indiana Jones Adventure - 10 Minutes
Millennium Falcon: Target Run - 15 Minutes

Mr. Chapek, please call your office.

I was with them Sunday night as well and this was basically our experience too. The only thing that we rode that was posted longer than 15 minutes past 10 p.m. was Matterhorn at 20 mins. And reality it was half than that. We thought because everyone was waiting for Monday. Guess not.

And this is a great time everyone! DL will be fine, it will adjust at some point. So for now, just enjoy it!!!! If you weren't planning on going until later but you live close enough and have the money or an APer, GO!!!!!!

For years everyone has complained that Disneyland is too packed. Now that they have fixed many crowding issues every complains that the place is empty. There is no pleasing this place. Trolls will be trolls I guess.
Agreed, cause if it was the direct opposite and it was packed to the gills everyone would be complaining that TDA didn't do enough to curb the crowds.

It will be interesting to watch the TDA response later this week to this collapse in attendance. Amazing!

Here it is

It’s not trolling... it’s highlighting what clearly is a break from the norm... and to the level that would have the revenue and attendance forecasts in the toilet. It’s not just a “customer sat” topic if the resort doesn’t deliver on its revenue and profit forecasts to the mothership.

Worst case scenario for both corporate Disney and its fans is if Disneyland's attendance and guest spending in 2019 is flat or only a little better when compared with 2018.

It would likely cause panic among shareholders and the BoD because it would be perceived that these kind of big, expensive expansions don't always pay off. Disney would then probably scale back or pause any expansion plans not already in development and possibly cut back on other things like entertainment to make up for all the money "wasted" on Galaxy's Edge.

But lets wait until the end of the year and after the opening of RotR before we jump to that conclusion.

They are going to get totally skittish and go the complete opposite direction with DHS unfortunately.

Probably the easier solution was a tighter preview period (10 days with two weekends) and *slightly* less doom and gloom internally about the opening being the apocalypse.

There is no working memory, when the company tells everyone to stay away (like for Disneyland Paris' opening), guests actually listen.

Better to just sell an overall capacity controlled amount of tickets (like they did at Shanghai) so that they can control the actual numbers they want and not have it be too high or *gasp* too low.

Albeit SW: GE DOES add not an insignificant amount of capacity. 5k guests in the land is still 5k less guests in Disneyland prime.

Give it a couple weeks and the AP flood will return.

And Disneyland prime does have far more attractions and capacity than Hollywood Studios, which will only have 6 other rides open when Falcon Run does. It's going to be a mess for DHS no matter what they do IMO. Just look at the free-for-all they had when Playland opened.

Tourists aren't going to stay away in WDW, they'll have their Magic your Way Tickets ready to go to flood the place. Even a whiff of waits are reasonable will be reversed in the same day.

This is reminding me a lot of Hogsmeade opening summer at Universal Hollywood.

And those same tourists will likely be angrier of they can't get into Star Wars Land during their "once in a lifetime trip to Disney Land", vs a number of APers who were fine with waiting until the end of summer to go.

So being Day 2 of the land opening and a boarding pass is not even required to enter the land yet. Granted Millennium Falcon wait times are currently 2 hours.

Also... isn’t this kinda odd timing Star Wars wise? The big re-hype of the new movies has calmed down a bit correct?

Episode 9 opens this Christmas and I expect a commercial for GE to be tagged in front of it to hype demand, along with a general rise in interest to visit the parks.

But yes, the "new Star Wars" hype peaked with the opening of Force Awakens 4 years ago and has tapered off somewhat since.

Agreed.

And then there's this current situation on Day Two. Hmm.....

Right now at mid-morning on Day Two of no reservations for Star Wars Land, the Virtual Queue remains turned off and Star Wars Land is free flowing to anyone who wants to wander in. Millennium Falcon has a 75 minute wait, Indiana Jones Adventure is 65 Minutes, Hyperspace Mountain and Radiator Springs Racers and Midway Mania is 55 Minutes, and the other 40 rides in both Disneyland and DCA from B Tickets to E Tickets are all 5 to 15 Minutes long.

That tells me that the crowd has split five ways two hours after rope drop - Falcon, Indy, Hyperspace, Midway Mania and Racers.

This might not be so much about the over-reaction of reservations and Virtual Queues (that are not currently being used) from Disneyland management, but the fact that Falcon is a good but not groundbreaking E Ticket in a park that has a lot of other very good rides to offer.
