Thank you so much for posting this wdwmom! We just returned on Sunday-we were down for a week. Both my husband and I commented on where the Dream Squad members were. We saw sooo many in May and this trip we saw maybe....2. I'm not kidding. I thought it was just us being at the wrong place at the wrong time. We also saw very few people with prizes, a few fast passes, but nothing really. Thanks for bringing this up-it seems like the YOMD is being fizzled out, even though there is an extension.

We saw the dream team just inside the Maharaja Jungle Trek the morning of 9/6. They were giving out dream fastpasses.

Are the tinkerbell pins (one to keep, one to give) part of YOAMD? What about the "magic moments" thing. Are they part of it too?

As official as it sounds, the YOAMD is actually a legal giveaway thats filed with the state of Florida. There have to be actuall totals and dollar values for everything given away, even the fast passes have a dollar value somehow.(probably cost of the actuall plastic and lanyard) There are limits /totals to the give-aways that coincide with the calender year. The whole breakdown in numbers is on the Disney website if you click on the terms and conditions link on certain YOAMD pages. i was bored one night and read it.

We just came back from our honeymoon 9/9-9/16 and we saw a good amount of people with dream fastpasses. We were lucky enough on our last day to get awarded some dream ears! I was so excited because when we were there in Nov. we didnt win anything and I usually have the worst luck at winning stuff. We went to Epcot to do the Disney Visa picture and went to go to China to get me a fan and we were walking on the bridge back by the old Odyssey (?) building and there were standing there handing out ears to everyone walking by.

Yes and no. The Pixie Dust pins and Magical Moments are a part of the Year of a Million Dreams, the overall marketing campaign for the North American Disney theme parks and resorts for 2006-2008.

The Disney Dreams Giveaway is another part of the Year of a Million Dreams. The Giveaway is the actual process of the Dream Squad awarding prizes to guests in random places at random times.

So, to answer your question, the Pixie Dust pins, Magical Moments and the Disney Dreams Giveaway are all part of the Year of a Million Dreams. All Cast Members (including Dream Squad) have the opportunity to conduct Magical Moments and hand out Pixie Dust pin packs, while Dream Squad Cast Members are the only ones legally authorized to conduct the prize giveaways.

I can't even count how many times I've been to WDW since the celebration started and I've never seen anyone win. I've seen Dream Squad people occasionally going from one place to another, but never a win being awarded. Needless to say, I've never won in the parks either.

Today however, there was a knock on my door. My mail lady had a second pair of YOAMD ears for me. I haven't sent in postcards for about two months now but sure enough, this is my second win.

So YOAMD is definitely in full swing. It may just not be as apparent as you'd think. After all, I've only won at home and not in the park any one of the two dozen times or so I've been in the past year.

When we were there in Oct 06 the Dream Team was everywhere. We saw lots of people with dream fast passes and the pin things that we won. My son and daughter each got a Disney pin from CM's. It was really fun.

This time I could see a HUGE difference. I still noticed a few special little things like they were picked to be the first to ride the Tea Cups and the guy who worked there, Kevin, had everyone sing Happy Un-Birthday to them and gave them a certificate. That was really cute but I didn't see much more than that. Maybe they have chilled a little about all of that.

I assure you nothing had been "toned down" or "pulled back." It's just as in full swing as it was on Oct 1. It's just coincidence/luck whether you see them or not and, like I said earlier in my post, if you REALLY want to see them there are PLENTY of opportunities to do so. Winning, though, is just a matter of being at the right place at the right time. ;)
