What's the D23 Epcot Announcement that will affect call centers?

My personal vote is its something horrible for guests and how to respond about complaints about new policy, anything else could be handled via email and video training

Im getting carpet bombed with discounts to visit WDW so i think summer is worse than Burbank anticipated
If the summer is worse than anticipated and you're being bombed with discounts, logic would assume a crazy new deal would be rolled out to get heads in beds?

Len said it was Epcot related so maybe a dining promotion that is only for Epcot Restaurants. There are no general public fall discounts yet, they should be coming out pretty soon. But it still begs the question why would this be announced at D23. That part is confusing and makes this rumor interesting.

Yeah, totally makes sense that they would make a "horrible" announcement at a fan convention...

Possibly an announcement about a specific guest reader for the Candlelight Processional this winter? Several dates still have no one announced.. and I suspect we will see a pretty big name added to the list that will make people clamor for reservations..

I agree I think it is for sure a guest reader... I am of the opinion like so many others it is going to be a recently retired politician.

Really? I'm not getting any type of discount offers. Maybe it's because my last 20 or so stays have been at Deluxe Resorts, so they know I'll more than likely return without a discount? What sort of offers are you getting and it is email or snail mail?

I'll agree, whatever the rumor turns out to be, it's unlikely to be anything good for the customers or their wallets. We'll just have to wait and see because some of the guesses in this thread are really out there.

Lots of email, some snail mail and frankly it's bizzare because I'm DVC as such my Disney hotel stay is already taken care of, They even offered new platinum plus AP's for 824! (dumped my AP's back in 2015). And I've gotten a blizzard of Copper Creek offerings.

The only inside contact I have is someone who has been in the mouse's call center end of things for over a decade, and they claimed they had no knowledge of this. So either they are playing it really close to the vest, or perhaps it's just a pure, non-starter rumor.

From DISBoards user 'writerguyfl':
"I used to work at the Disney Reservations Center. While this certainly could be something major, it doesn't have to be. This sort of thing was done whenever something potentially big was going to be announced. For example, I remember when "Mission: Space" was publically announced. Prior to the announcement, one of these informational meetings was scheduled for the Reservations Sales Agents.

These meetings aren't new. The fact that someone outside the company heard about them and reported them is new.

There are two reasons to keep the Call Center people well informed. First, the sales spiels are customized to highlight certain attractions based on information provided by the caller. (This is for first-time guests.) If the caller has young kids and says they heard that Epcot only has one ride for kids, the Reservations Sales Agent might mention "Journey into Imagination with Figment" and "Turtle Talk with Crush". So, if any Epcot attractions are being closed, the Agents will need to know to alter their sales spiels.

Second, social media drives our world. We have YouTubers, bloggers, and Twitterers (Tweeters?). Many of those folks will call the Disney Reservations Center trying to get details about future plans. Reservations Sales Agents are being told about future plans at these meetings. I'm also certain they are being told exactly what they shouldn't be saying. Having a Disney Cast Member saying the wrong thing to someone with a huge social media following could lead to bad PR.

Based on my experience, I don't think these meetings are a precursor to a special Epcot-specific promotion. With the various festivals, Epcot doesn't need promoting."
