For our anniversray trip in May, we're thinking of actually taking one of the tours at WDW. We know theres the Keys to the Kingdom, Behind the Seeds, Segway, etc. etc.

What do these tours involve, how much are they, and how long do they take?

We've been to the World umpteenth times but have never thought to take advantage of one of these. Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance!

Here's a link to specific info about each tour, such as cost and days offered, etc.

To answer your question, "Is it worth it?"
Yes, absolutely. I have taken the Backstage Magic Tour, Keys To The Kingdom, Behind The Seeds, UnDiscovered Futureworld, Around The World on a Segway (twice) and the Hidden Treasures of Epcot (no longer offered).

Next, I want to take Wild By Design at DAK and Magic Behind The Steam Trains.

The tours are incredibly professionally run and can impress even a WDW vet. Be sure to ask about any discount you might be entitled to. Some of the tours offer AP, DVC, AAA and Chase Disney Visa discounts of 15-20%.

You can call 407-WDW-TOUR to reserve a tour or just to ask a question.

Awesome! The Keys to the Kingdom tour looks like my favorite right now. I'll have to see what the wife thinks. Thanks!

I've only done the Behind the Seeds tour, but I highly recommend it! Very low cost, and a great tour that does not last very long. I love Living with the Land though, and had always wanted to get out into the greenhouses, so being up close and personal in there was a treat!

We did Backstage Magic last year and it was great!!! Two fabulous tour guides. It's expensive but would be fun to do again sometime to hear another tour guides experiences and spin. DH did the Segway tour a couple years ago and liked it so much that we are all going in 15 days!! Some of the tours you have to be 16 and have a government issued photo ID. If we go again at christmas I would love to do the Holiday D-Lights or Yuletide Fantasy tours.

The only tour I have done so far is the Behind the Seeds tour and I loved it.
It was very informative, but fun at the same time. They do some amazing work in those greenhouses.
It was very reasonable priced and well worth it.

Keys to the Kingdom is fantastic BUT there are some critical considerations:

1) No kids under 16 allowed.
2) Very expensive at $74.00/person
3) 4.5-hours of walking

That being said, Backstage Magic is even MORE expensive and even MORE walking, and kids under 16 still aren't allowed.

My personal favorite has been Behind the Seeds for it's low cost and low endurance required.

It'll just be me and my wife, so no kids. And since its our anniversary, we probly wont mind springing for a more expensive tour. Thanks!

Keep in mind that KTTK will require park admission as well as the tour cost. They do give you a nice lunch included in the cost.

Backstage Magic does not require park admission and they also give you a great lunch.

If you are interested in seeing the utilidors under MK, both tours will take you down there.

If you get a discount, it's not so bad. I paid roughly $55 for KttK with the Disney Visa discount, and since it included lunch and the pin it definitely pushed the value up for me.

For those of you that have taken these tousr, like the Keys to the Kingdom and Backstage Magic, does seeing this take away from the Magic of Disney? I have always been worried that seeing all of the background work that goes into creating the magic, would cause my wife and I to look differently at WDW as a whole.

Our Backstage Magic tour didn't go to the Xmas warehouse. But that same week they added AK. The AK parade warehouse and horticulture center with the topiaries.

It was worth every penny!!!

Does not spoil the magic at all:)

You are partially right, the tours will cause you to look differently at WDW in a good way. Once you learn everything that went into creating this vacation kingdom, you will have a much larger appreciation for Disney World and begin to truly see the magic through the eyes of an imagineer. The magic is not lost, it is amplified. There are two kinds of Disney guests, the tourists - who come to Disney because of the hype, and then there are the enthusiasts - who come to Disney for their love of everything that was created through the eyes of Walt and the imagineers. Understanding the complexity of Walt Disney World is like elevating your intellect to a whole new dimension. Whatever tour you choose, (I recommend Keys to the Kingdom, if you understand the Magic Kingdom, you will understand Disney as a whole) it will be the experience of a lifetime!
