Does anyone know why the smellitizers don't work in the front middle row? Do they not work somewhere else?

I like that... "smellitizers" ;)

The last time I went back in May (eeeek! it's been so long ago!), we sat in the back row towards the left side of the "glider" and we smelled EVERYTHING!

Anyways, we're going back Labor Day Weekend.

As for 3D shows, the smells don't come from the screen. They come from little blowers from the seats in front of you.

Has anyone noticed how noisy the blower is in Philharmagic? I distinctly remember hearing this noise that sounded almost like a really big can of compressed air being blown and shortly after the smell came. And it sounded to me like it was up by the screen. I think to the right of it.

But it seemed really noisy and very noticeable. I noticed it on my first time seeing Philharmagic and I heard it and before the smell hit I thought thats what it might be and sure enough theres the smell. Smells great though. :)

The device is in fact called the "Smellitzer" (Pronounced like "Howitzer") It is used on the rides, shows and it is actively used all over the park. You know that Popcorn Smell that is so intoxicating? It can be turned on and off with the flick of a switch because it is an artificial popcorn smell used to draw in hungry guests.

I work in a movie theatre and our popcorn machine doesn't smell nearly that good. Popcorn smells great, but that smell at Disney is like Popcorn on Heroin LOL

More info can be found at... http://www.solarius.com/dvp/misc/smellitzer.htm

And at the bottom of this page... http://www.themedattraction.com/sense.htm

Also an interesting project is being conducted by some college students in Japan where a smellitzer sends a smell directly to you only. They use a smellitzer and a vortex ring generator combined with Motion Tracking to aim the vortex ring of smell directly at your nose. Very interesting website which also includes a couple videos... http://www.mis.atr.jp/~yanagida/scent/

I've never had a problem with the smells. In the 10 times I've ridden, I've always smelled all the smells, including Ocean Mist from the upper rows, I'm pretty sure...

Of all the times I've ridden, I've had all the scents and breezes. There was only once where the smell was a little more faint, but still noticeable.

Those things that look like speakers on the above thing that lowers over you is where the smell comes from. As for 3D shows, the smells don't come from the screen. They come from little blowers from the seats in front of you.

are you 100% on that?

i thought they came from the ceiling, and fans blew them down towards you... because you can hear them in philhar and tough to be a bug... (the fans kicking on)

but i'm not 100%... just curious.

The fans are all in the ceiling, except for little bursts of wind, which come from in front of you. The smells and sprays do come from the seat in front of you though.

While there in June, we sat on the front and center to ride. I don't recall smelling anything....but that could have been because I was focusing on how tight I could hold on to the seat handles.

The smells in both Philharmagic and ITTBAB come from directly in front of you. This is also where the bursts of air come from.

I just got back from Epcot. I was in Concourse 1 ,section A, first row, third seat from the left (if you're wanting the exact location) and had every smell and air yet again.

I think it was just a bad "trigger" that didn't go off.
