What's in the water?

Briita makes a water bottle that has a built in filter.
My wife and I bring one with us whenever you go.
It's amazing how much cleaner and fresher the water tastes.

I don't know if the central florida water management does it but around here in the Tampa Bay area (as well as in Miami), the water management uses chloramine - which is chlorine PLUS amonia - to filter the water. This is deadly to fish and can not be used for dialysis patients. It requires special filters to be removed. (Link for info.)

Generally speaking though, the water here is utterly unfit to drink. Never has been. Filters or bottled water are always the way to go.

Be safe, buy Dasani!

I conccur completely. Aquafina, interestingly, takes water from the reservoir literally within walking distance of my house. Yukk. There is, as it turns out, such a thing as too clean- Latahm's water tastes like diluted pool water.

Strange thing is...come down to South Florida, and the water taste and smells different (better). I thought it was just me....

South Florida gets most of their drinking water from the Biscayne Aquifer, whereas Central Florida gets its from the Floridan Aquifer.

I operate a water treatment plant in the school where I work. Some of this could be caused by the chemicals used in the process. We use 2 different chemicals, and a filter system to treat ours, and we still have bottled water fountains for the kids and staff to use. Our water is drinkable, but I'm not gonna drink it....:hurl:

I don't know, but the water in Louisiana has the same taste. It may have to do with the elevation (or lack of it in this case) and the minerals/chemicals in the water table. I always bring the Wal Mart brand of the Crystal Lite type powder mix and add to the water when at WDW. It helps tremendously.:slurp:

"Safe" and "Dasani" do not go in the same sentence in the UK. Coke really botched up there - they tried to spin the advertising to make it sound like spring water, but it turns out that it came from the Thames and whatever filtration process they used put illegal levels of some substance in it. Even Coke could not recover from that and decided to withdraw the product.

BARNUM: Aha - that would explain why my Aunt wouldn't drink it a few months ago. She drank Crystal Springs instead.

SIR90210: - Too funny, in addition to Aquafina - we won't drink Zephryhills. That definately tastes like Florida swampwater!

I've spent my entire life in Central Florida, except for three days, so I've never really noticed an issue with the water.

It could be worse. Think how nasty the water here is. :hurl:

I won't post about the hundreds of people still missing from Katrina.:( :(

Your water tasted bad before Katrina, no offense. I would hesitate (but still use quickly) to shower in it now as I do with our water. We have so much debris still out in the Gulf who knows what is in our systems and I am 9 mos pregnant. Bottled water only wherever I go cause it cannot be any worse than here.

Actually we are driving all night on the school bus:eek: So we will get to WDW early Sunday morning. We do not have matching shirts. My students are excited that they get to be out of their school uniforms for a week, so I didn't press the issue. I am 5'6", white, plump, and have brown hair. My husband is 6'4", blond, with a mustache (he looks like Jeff Foxworthy's older and bigger brother:) ) We will be with several students about your age. We have more girls than boys in our group. I'll have my eye on you ;) One of my girls is Korean (exchange student) and the rest of my sweeties are various shades of black and white. Look for us. We are from one of the tiniest parishes in north Louisiana, Red River. We are staying off-site. We would love to take a pix with you. Sorry to stray from the thread......drink mixes are money and taste savers!

8 days until the "yellow limo" is ºoºrlando bound (school bus-27 teens-930 miles:hammer: :sohappy: )

Yeah, alot of the water is... lack luster. I do recall a few good fountains though. There's one by the Cinderella statue by the castle that's not bad.

hmm me like beverly :slurp:

btw .. is icq station cool open again ?

Surely no-one likes Beverly (the drink as opposed to the girl). Nothing pleased me more than pointing an unsuspecing enemy (or friend) at the Beverly pump and letting them get a good mouthful of the flavoursome liquid swirling around their tongues and watching their faces.
