You would get into this submarine and go around the lagoon and see underwater seas of a scuba diver and mermaids and fish and stuff like that. I'm sure somebody else may be able to give you more details, since I was like 7 the last time I rode it:wave:

All very true, but it still brings back fond memories!Woody13 said:20K was hot (the A/C in the subs never worked right), smelly (you were sealed in a very small space with 36 other sweaty people) and boring (all you really saw were plastic fish on strings). The ride capacity was very low so the queue was always long. It closed in 1994, thank goodness.

Wrong!:brick:cameraguy said:My mom told me about this ride. From what I've heard from her and on this board, its a good thing it closed, it sounds pretty dinky and boring, and would only interest a three year old.

It was a fun ride, and provided a HUGE amount of movement and beauty to Fantasyland. The themeing was fantastic!

You entered a submarine that looked similar to the one in the movie and you were actually under water while the sub moved around the lagoon. The highlight of the ride was when you caught a glimpse of the giant squid/octopus that attacked the Nautlius in the movie. There's a whole mess of "conspiracy" theories as to why the ride closed, most based on the cost of running the attraction. I asked about the ride's closure when I was on the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour and the answer I received made good sense. One was that the ride was not wheel chair accessible and I do remember having to go down a small flight of steps to get into the ride. Second was the danger factor. If there was a problem with the sub, or someone got seriously ill, there really was no way to get someone off the ride very quickly. Finally, it took forever to load and unload the submarines, so the lines got incredibly long. Back in 1995 I bought a CD-Rom called the Walt Disney World Explorer. I still use it all the time and it has some great pictures of the attraction. I think you still can still buy the CD-Rom online. Also, one little trivia note, I believe the organ in the Ball Room of the Haunted Mansion was the organ played by Captain Nemo in the movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." I hope this helps.
