What would happen if Cars 2 Bombed

I would hope that they would pull back a bit. Cars has one place in the parks: Tomoorowland speedway. If they are going to keep that outdated, polluting attraction at least theme it right

I know people say it's a polluting attraction, and I am sure it is, but think of all the gas powered mowers and weed wackers that are used to keep the grounds Disney Perfect.

Yeah, I guess the difference is that the cars are right there in the parks. I just reaqlly don't like the ride because it takes up a huge footprint, isn't well themed, and is something I can go to the local theme park to do.

True. I do like that it has grandstands, one of the few rides that offers non-riders a chance to watch their loved ones ride and a nice seat too(and kids do love it).

I am sure the kiddies will still back the theaters to see this movie and it will have a good box office run, but from what I am reading this might be the worse Pixar offering so far. If the film did not live up to expectations at the box office, how much do you think it would effect how they integrate the Cars franchise into the parks?

Not a bit. While the new movie might not be great the marketing response for the Cars franchise is nothing sort of incredible.

There's also that little project they've got going in Calfornia...

As far as the Speedway is concerned, making it Cars-themed would make no sense in TL. Not that Speedway makes sense as it is. (Speedway should be replaced outright IMO.)

I don't think it's really possible for Cars 2 to be a flop, other than the economy. Let's face it, it's a kid's movie and kids don't care about what happens in the movie as long as they see their favorite characters and flashy lights.

Disney knows that, so they carry on with their Cars campaign. Even if it did flop, I think they'd still be alright off the first Cars movies. Kids love cars, especially boys. I think it's a safe road for Disney to travel down, and they know it.

Like said above, its a movie made with kids in mind. Its talking cars, 90% of little boys will love it and wont be quite until there moms or dads takes them to go see it. I think its a great time for it to come out too since Tangled came out last year for all the little girls, now there brothers get Cars 2.

I for one am going to see it tonight with my G/F and we are no where near having kids of our own (knocks on wood). I really dont see this bombing.

Reviews are actually the worst anyone may ever have imagined for a Pixar film. So far 34% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not that I think it will result in a significant loss for Disney / Pixar. I recently read that they earned $2 Billion just from merchandising alone from the first movie. And parents will bring their kids no matter what reviews say.

Disneyland already has Cars Land well under construction, but given the negative talk on the current movie, I think Disney may re-think any plans for a similarly grand project at WDW (how awkward would that press conference be?). But you can bet the line of Cars toys will continue to be strong moneymakers, both in the parks and in stores.

I have been surprised at the negative reviews. Were this not a Pixar film with the high expectations people have of Pixar, I suspect the reviews would have been a tick or two higher.

In any event, I suspect Cars 2 will still make tons of money. My 8-year-old enjoyed it more than Wall-e, Ratatoullie, Monsters Inc., Nemo, or any other Pixar film except the Toy Story groups and Bug's Life. And I suspect most 8-14 year old boys will be in the same spot. It probably won't generate nearly the love from adults than many previous Pixar films have.

Perhaps it'll dampen enthusiasm to remake Carsland (still the worst name for a "Land" at a Disney park) at DHS, but that all depends on how successful the rides are. Splash Mountain was copied, after all, because people loved the ride, not because they loved the movie.

Who said it was reviewed as the worst Pixar movie? I read a review that said it is better than the original. I"m not sure if I will see it in theaters, but I'm sure its quality. When has there ever been a Pixar film that has been bad?

I tend to agree with you on that one. Further, the actual critic reviews I've read have not been that negative ... they were certainly not as enthused as the reviews for, say, Wall-E or Up, but the negativity has been nowhere near as bad as the negativity towards POTC or Green Lantern. The greater amount of negativity has been on this forum, mostly by posters who have not yet seen the movie. And mostly as a way of spitting bile at Mr. Lassiter or Cars or whatever other grudge they have to bear.

Will the movie bomb? I doubt it. As has been pointed out, the franchise has a pretty solid audience.

Even should the movie pull in lesser numbers than originally planned for, the first movie certainly has generated enough enthusiasm (not counting the haters on the forum, many of whom, I suspect, are just looking for a Goliath to throw stones at) to garner a park attraction. Carsland, after all, is based on the Radiator Springs of the first movie, not the world stage of the second.

Reviews don't mean much for kids movies. Also, it's a Pixar film so I'm going to go out there and say it'll be nominated for the Best Animated Film at the Academy Awards next year. Just saying.

See but that to me doesnt make much sense. All of the Pixar films have been Grade-A films. Up and Wall-E are great examples of a perfect animated movie. I mean unless you're a John Lassiter hater, theres no reason to hate what Pixar puts out in terms of movies.

Agreed, little boys LOVE Cars, so what ever the movies reception is, it wont Mater :animwink: A 5yr old doesnt really care too much about the story, all they want is there little Lightning Mcqueen car to push around.
