Thank you everyone for the great opinions. It gives me other people's perspective and this helps me when I book vacations for other people. I love the responses so keep them coming please.

If and when we can, and when the rate ends up being the same or lower than a moderate, we rent DVC points for a deluxe studio.

Otherwise, we love the moderates. They are wildly overpriced (as, in my opinion, are all Disney hotels), but the queen-sized beds, double sinks and privacy curtains/screens (perfect for me, the early riser, to get up and start getting ready for the day without disturbing my sleeping DH and 2 kids), in-room coffeemakers, and extra square footage in each room (especially the extra elbow room around the room's the table and 2 chairs, which we utilize for an in-room breakfast each morning) are all amenities that we use and appreciate every day of our Disney vacation.

As much as I'd love an even bigger room and better transportation to at least one park (as in the deluxes), those particular perks don't justify the price difference for us.

Planning on doing a villa our next trip, so I can't comment on them although I do plan on becoming a DVC member after if I love them. If money isn't an issue than deluxe is the way to go. Purely from a convenience aspect. As Epcot lovers we've stayed at all the area resorts there and love them. Mainly BC. With little kids staying closer to MK is sometimes for convenient and the area hotels there are wonderful too. Haven't stayed at poly but I've been in there plenty of times. AKL is the tricky one for us. It's very appealing with kids to stay there, but transportation isn't as easy especially with kids.

For us it really depends on the type of trip and who is traveling and what our budget it is.

Budget trip or possibly part of a split stay to see a new resort? Value resort
Anniversary trip? Usually a deluxe, unless money is tight, we've spent time at a value on an anniversary trip
Longer family vacation, multi-generational? Deluxe Villa

I've stayed at all different resort types and locations and I've become a huge fan of All-Star Sports. I love the Surf's Up section since it reminds me of the hotels my family stayed at on vacation during the 80s.
Oh this is a really good question. We are DVC members and we really enjoy our stays there. BUT... I really like the decor at the values and sometimes I miss that. (I don't think I would give up the space, kitchen or washer/dryer in room at DVC). I know a lot of people don't care for the larger than life decor at the value but those are some of my favorite pictures of my vacations.
I'm surprised DIsney hasn't made an Art of Animation style DVC. Something tells me they could sell a few rooms.

I honestly don't have complaints about any category of the resorts. We stay in values the most frequently, but when we're just going up for a quick weekend trip and are planning on spending most of our time in the parks, that's perfect for us. I prefer deluxe resorts and like to stay in them as often as possible, but I'm not spoiled by my experiences there to the point that I don't enjoy a stay at Pop Century. :)

Have stayed in all three levels and I voted for Deluxe. My family spends about half of our time at the resort, so we like staying at a hotel with activities and my daughter's one request is a pool with a slide. That being said, we have loved all of our stays. POR moderate is our second choice hotel because of all the activities - surrey bikes, fishing, boat rental, boat to go to Disney Springs. POP and AOA are fun too. My daughter says AOA has the best arcade!

I prefer the "low end" deluxe resorts, if you can call them that. Specifically "standard view" rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge. The rest of the deluxes (with the exception of the Poly) have little appeal to me since they all feel somewhat formal for my mood when I'm at WDW.

I really don't like the villas when staying on points, but love them when paying cash. It really diminishes the "deluxe" feeling when you don't get housekeeping.

I prefer any vacation where I get to be with as much of my family as possible. I never went to WDW until I was in my 30s. Since then I've taken my daughter several times, had my nieces, nephew, parents, siblings and their partners all come at one time or another. Not many are as thrilled with WDW as me. I am a single person and this is the second trip I am treating my nephew and his little family to a week in the happiest place in the world. With my budget, value is perfectly fine for me!

Depends on the trip and resort, to be honest. If you are barely spending time at the resort then logically value makes most sense. Though if you have a specific resort(s) you love and have attachments to, then it wont matter either way. Money may be no object, but you just love the theming and atmosphere of POP or AoA.

Although I enjoy all levels, for the poll I chose deluxe because renting points is really the only way I travel to WDW now. Plus, points only work at select deluxe resorts.

The decor is one of my favorite things about value resorts. We used to stay exclusively at Pop and have a lot of great pictures with our daughter and the decor. We stay almost exclusively DVC now, but every once in a while we will stay at a value.

I'm wondering how many people who say deluxe resorts have ever stayed in a high end resort anywhere else in the world? I say that because I run into people who will spend huge amounts of money on deluxe Disney resorts but they really don't have anything else to compare it to.

Same with concierge levels. I know Hyatt concierge levels pretty well. From what I have read on here Disney concierge levels are nothing like where I have been and that's not in a good way. Example, I was drinking coffee reading the newspaper, watching CNN head line news in Denver and I thought how about going to a hockey game. Ask the concierge and she said give her minute, she'll check on tickets. Game sold out but she had a source that will sell us tickets for a little up charge. I said do it and I had tickets at my room in the afternoon. Simple as that. I enjoy cordials and sweets at 8 pm or so in most concierge levels etc. From what I hear about Disney it's a made rush to down everything you can. Nothing relaxing or special about and from what I see it's expensive by my standards. Disney have free cordials and sweets after 8? Doubt it.

Totally agree, we don't stay Deluxe at Disney for the concierge (level or workers). For us, it's location and novelty. I don't know anywhere else in America that I could watch giraffes and zebras while sitting on my balcony. I have had excellent customer service at all levels of Disney Resorts. Our best concierge experiences have occurred in Vegas and NYC, with Vegas being particularly outstanding.

I chose deluxe villa because we are a family of 6 and it just makes sense, but my second choice would have been Deluxe... ONLY because we LOVE the Epcot resorts and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. It's not about price, but about accessibility. We love the relaxing walk to our favorite park: Epcot.... not to mention the easy access to HS as well. We will not go to Disney unless we are staying at Swan & Dolphin, Yacht & Beach or Boardwalk... We're just Epcot snobs... :joyfull:

We have only stayed at the values and moderates and I voted moderate. For the money, we love everything a moderate offers... preferably POR. The theme is great, the food court is our favorite, the boats to Disney Springs are nice, the queen beds, extra space in the rooms, double sinks, amenities, location and great pools.

Now this year is our first deluxe resort stay. I really do hope I enjoy it, but I am afraid I am going to enjoy too much and I won't want to go back to POR. I paid less for my Beach Club stay for this September, than I did for my POR stay last November - a lot less. So I could not pass up the price, being so close to Epcot, and Stormalong Bay.

I've stayed at most resorts on my parents' dime while growing up. Now, being in my 20's and paying for trips myself, I tend to stay at the values due to budget (hey, I'm just happy to be in the World!). While the values are vibrant and simple resorts, I'm growing bored of them and want to explore new resorts. There is nothing better than seeing Magic Kingdom from your room window when you first wake up or walking into the back of Epcot. And for that reason, I'm voting deluxe.
A stay in the Beach Club will be in my future after graduating from part time college jobs to a career! (Hopefully ;))
