Just wondering what everyone takes to the parks with them and how to carry them?

Not sure what I should have with me besides my Camera!!:animwink:

I know a lot of people carry extra socks, and rain ponchos, and that kind of stuff but I HATE carrying stuff around with me. I will be carrying the least amount of stuff as I possibly can. That being said, the only thing I will be carrying is a very small point and shoot camera that is in an equally small waterproof camera bag. This bag just barely fits in my Key To The World Card and cell phone so everything is protected during wet rides or when it rains. It's so hot in Florida that I could care less if I get wet as long as my electronics are safe. I wouldn't even take my cell phone with me but it's proven to be invaluable for when we separate for any reason or even by mistake. I wear the case across my chest and I don't even know it's there. I can't do the pack thing, I'd feel like a Grandmother (sorry to anyone out there that likes them). If you are traveling with very young children you obviously need to adjust and take in things like diapers and stuff but even during that stage I had a very small diaper bag that I could take off the back of the stoller and take on rides with us so I never had to leave anything sitting out.

I totally agree about the no pack thing. We use wallets on a string. We picked these up for a trip to Europe a while back to avoid problems with gypsies- but they've come in handy for a number of trips. You wear them around your neck and they tuck into your shirts. It's perfect for keeping your travel docs, credit cards, passport, etc. on you and safe at all times. My cell phone fits into mine. We're traveling with 2 young kids- so I usually have a backpack with everything under the sun...it still doesn't mean I'll ever remember to take our video camera out. At least the regular camera stays around my neck or over my shoulder.

For me it depends on how I plan on spending the day. If I'm looking at a long hot day going from open to close I pack a small day pack. It's a Camelback with two small pockets, it's the same one I use for a day hike in the woods. I fill the water bladder with ice and water at the hotel and it will last all day. I carry a small first aid kit--Tylenol, Bandaids, Moleskin--maybe a few healthy snacks, sunscreen, disposable wipes, and a camera. Sometimes things like ponchos or other seasonal stuff if they look like it will come in handy. It may seem like a lot but if I am going to be gone from the hotel for up to 16 hours with a large group it is worth it. A couple Tylenol can really save someone's day.

Now if I am going more casual and just taking a few hours with just me and the wife I just bring my wallet.

My husband doesn't even take his wallet. There's no need for it. We have our Key to the World Cards and a few dollars shoved into the camera case. We never need anything more than that since we have our charge card set up with our tickets. We have everthing charged to them and rarely need anything else. Why chance having the wallet either dropped or stolen?

Well we always take a few small things into the park. I generally put everything into a ziploc bag and place that in the pack..yep I said it! Or I take a small nylon 'backpack' that we got at AK. My oldest daughter has to take medication each day due to Chrons so I take a little container with that day's meds, pepto, tylenol, bandaids, a sunblock stick and hand sanitizer.

We always take a small backpack to theme parks. At disney, it's usually a poncho and umbrella (cause with florida weather it could rain at any minute), a camera with extra batteries, a hard sided water bottle for refills, extra socks, one of those sprinkler fans during warm months, wallet with all the important cards, brush and small towel for water rides and a few snacks. Plastic baggies are important for wet items or to prevent items from getting wet. We carry the bag also for small things we might pick up throughout the day and its usually not heavy or a bother. Even so we switch throughout the day, I'll wear it for the first half of the day and someone else for the second half.

I agree with bamillerpa. If you're staying on property, no wallet is needed. I usually bring a small backpack filled with some bottles of water, sunscreen, & ponchos (if the forecast calls for rain). If you're not doing the dining plan, a snack may be something good to bring. I like to bring the backpack in case I buy a souvenir (sp?). That way, assuming the souvenir is small enough, I don't have to carry it around by the handle in the bag the store gives you.

YOU STOLE MY THUNDER! You posted your reply 6 minutes before mine! I knew I shouldn't have gone to grab that snack! I guess great minds think alike.

I take my small, backpack purse and always include the following:

  • Small zipper pouch with first aid/emergency supplies:
    • Assortment OTC meds like Tylenol/Advil/etc., Imodium, Ginger Pills (helps with motion sickness/queasy stomachs), allergy pills.
    • Mini dental floss. Seriously, few things are as annoying as something stuck in your teeth.
    • Nail clipper (because a hang nail is one of the other most annoying things)
    • Glasses lens cloth cleaner.
    • Tiny mirror
  • Pins for trading
  • Camera
  • Glow bracelets fun for after dark (15 of them for $1 at Michael's versus like $5-10 for light-up items at the park)
  • Sunscreen
Sometimes I'll also bring my water bottle carrier which is just a simple fabric "bucket" shaped to hold a water/soda bottle with a shoulder strap. (When not in use, I can fold it up in my bag.) Because I find it annoying to carry bottles.

And if it's a rainy time of year, I might stick my mini umbrella in there as well.

Often, I also have my iPod Touch with me in case one of us has, say, stomach issues, it gives you something to do while waiting. Plus, we always listen to it on the drive out anyway.

I work at a zoo and have an all weather backpack with heavily padded shoulder straps. I take that and pack Tylenol, moleskin, camera, cell phone, ponchos, plastic bag for cell phones and camera on water rides, a hoodie because I'm always cold, extra batteries, ADR confirmation numbers, and wallet. I wear my college lanyard which has a clear plastic ID holder for my Key To the World card, photopass, and fastpasses- this is great for EMH since you never have to pull the card out. It sounds like a lot, but we never go back to the room midday and the backpack is so comfortable its no bother to carry all day.

We take a backpack with snacks, water flavor packets, ponchos (if it isn't so hot that the rain would be welcomed!), autograph book, chafing relief, camera and some tiny things to keep my kids occupied in lines. When it isn't the dead of summer we also have plastic bags with a dry change of clothes and some flip flops. Oh and my planning book... always have my planning book!:animwink:

I carry the camera and bag. In the case I have some money, cell phone and a few snacks. I don't even turn the phone on unless we get separated. My hubby wears a pack (yes he really does). His back isn't the best so a back pack is out. In the pack he carries sunscreen, his wallet, cell phone, first aid stuff(moleskin, tylenol, advil, band aids, and hand sanitizer) snacks and an autograph book. And my daughter carries her own camera. We don't take rain ponchos. If it rains we just run thru it like idiots!!:D

room key card with a credit card on it
AP
Some cash
Drivers License

Small Camera

If it is raining when I leave the room, I will take a poncho with me.

Glasses

How do I carry it all? I put it in my pocket. I am in the parks 12+ hours a day, and never found a need for anything else.

If you're in the 21-30ish range and plan on ordering alcohol, your driver's license is something that can easily be forgotten when running through the mental list of what to grab.

Wallet & sunglasses

The only other thing is I make up a small (e.g.zip lock bag) medical kit. 2-3 Bandaids small piece of mole , lactaid for DS, antacid for me, aspirin for DW.

This fits into the pocket of my cargo shorts. DW always laughs and makes comments, but always asks for a bandaid or mole skin midway through day one.

I always carry a small Vera Bradley backpack. In it is a small credit card case to put driver's license, insurance card, credit card, Disney park pass & some cash. I also carry small dental floss, band aids, tylenol, cell phone, lip balm and glasses. Unfortunately, my DH & I are both at that certain age where menu reading is quite difficult so we both have to have reading glasses! Also plenty of room for my camera! No big deal at all to carry around.

I found a sewing pattern for a tote bag with straps that convert into a backpack, which has been the best discovery ever (you can see a picture of the one I made here). I use the backpack feature when we're walking around the park and it's nice because it's not heavy like a normal backpack and doesn't hurt my shoulders at all. I usually bring:
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera
  • Mini first aid kit - one of the 99 cent ones you can buy in the travel-size products area at Walmart or Target. It's got bandaids, neosporin, burn cream, animal sting cream, ibuprofen, etc.
  • Sunscreen - so that I don't get stuck carrying around a giant tube of sunscreen, I usually buy some of those empty 3 oz bottles they also sell in the travel-size stuff area and fill one with sunscreen. I refill it each night.
  • Mini hand sanitizer
  • 2-3 granola or Snackwell bars
  • Credit card holder with my essential banking cards, some cash tucked in, and my room key
