I would first get the lay of the land at the hotel so you know where the things are (cafes, transportation stops, lobby phones and others), stop by the gift shop and get the things you didn't or couldn't bring on the plane (also pick up "passports" for the MK, WS @ Epcot and AK - these are great fun to get the stamps and WS will sign them in the native language for the land).

Then if you have time still, go to Downtown Disney and check out Disney Quest.

Hope it helps. That's my plans for my trip next year.

I always get a feel for the resort that I am staying at, unpack, relax, and head to DTD for a nice dinner. Then we are all ready for the park hopping to begin the days following. Enjoy your trip! :D

We have always stayed at one of the value resorts. When we get there, we usually check out the hotel ( food court, gift shop, pools ). If we get in early enough, we head to downtown disney to do some shopping and eat dinner. We were hoping on our last visit to get in early enough to tour some of the other hotels and maybe take a ride on the monorail. We have a 3 yr old and thought he might like to check out Movies since we were staying at Sports. We had car trouble and ended up making it there about 5 hours later than we should have. Thats a story all its own!

We like to head to downtown disney on our arrival and departure day. Our son loves the monorail so it occupied some time taking in the sights. Hope this helps you out! Enjoy your trip!!:)

That's what we do! It's a great way to ease into Disney after the hassle of traveling. You can do as much or as little as you like without the hub-bub of the parks, yet still be immersed in the Disney experience. A perfect preview to your first day at the parks!

On departure day, if you have time, it's a perfect ending to your trip. A relaxing time, and a chance to finish up last-minute shopping.

Another alternative to DD is Boardwalk. Restaurants are great. The walk around the lagoon is nice, and, on your first night, you can catch some of EPCOT's fireworks from one of the two bridges. Different and fun!

Corrus, always so practical!

Some would consider it sacrilige to "waste" a ticked for a half day, but getting to one of the parks just to walk around, get something to eat and watch the parade/fireworks is surely an option.

Or if you've made res. previously, take a swim, clean up and have a nice dinner, turn in,

... or head to DTD, meal there, first souvineers, dancing, drinking....

The first night what you have to do is go to EPCOT!

It really is the perfect place to go the first day that you arrive. Heres what you do.. you enter the park and grab a fastpass for soar'n or test track. Then you just browse around the shops in futureworld.. get some soda at Club Cool, etc. Its your first day at disney and you just spent the entire morning waiting in traffic, airlines, busses, etc.. the last thing you want to do is wait in any type of lines.. so head to the Epcot countries and just browse around! Do some shopping in Mexico, Germany, etc. Grab a snack in the countries then walk back at your fastpass time and hit whichever fastpass ride you picked up. After that go grab a spot and watch the Illumination fireworks show! Oh, also.. check the times online on when the bands play in the countries.. maybe you'll get to watch the Brittish Invasion or that other band everyone likes from canada.

Hit the ground running

We always drop off our luggage and head for one of the parks. We've stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter so many times we know the layout by heart. We don't want to waste a minute of our visit. Can't wait until we go back Nov. 23, 2006.

Just a caveat to the post someone gave above - there ARE NO FASTPASSES for SOARIN available after noon - most days they are gone by 10:30. Still, the suggestion of going to Epcot is excellent - my favorite park - and you can't go wrong but to walk around the park, stay for the fireworks, and make the most of your time at the parks. That will also allow you to go elsewhere on the other evenings.

We always go straight to the parks. Even the day after our wedding with only three hours sleep and over twelve hours travel time (including 7 hours in the air and several more running through airports and customs). Once the plane lands the adrenaline kicks in and all the tiredness tends to melt away. I love to rush right over to the Magic Kingdom for a Casey's hotdog followed by fireworks and a ride on Pirates if I can squeeze it in. Of course the most we get to go is once a year and that's on a good year so our excitement to start having fun usually gets the better of us.

Since you're sleeping on the plane, I would catch one of the fireworks shows and then head to DD or Jellyrolls. What better way to start a vacation with Wishes or Illuminations.

DREAM ON !!!!!!
IF your flight isn't delayed and lands on time you've still got to go through US Immigration and baggage reclaim before driving / being driven to WDW. REALISTICALLY you're looking at 1800hrs before you see that nice comfy bed after a long tiring day.
I think your next move (after you unpack) all depends on the type of ticket you have - Can you afford to waste a days ticket on an evenings entry ???
My suggestion - Visit DTD for a few hours, get to bed early and then when you wake up the following day you're ready to hit the parks

get a nice dinner res for later -- and catch a firework show -- if you hit rides you do -- if not -- it's okay -- you have 14 days- but just take it easy and enjoy the first night. we hit crystal palace buffet at 6 and watch spectro at 8 --
