What to do on your first day at WDW if it's raining all day?

We're landing in Orlando in the morning on Oct. 28 and staying at the Dolphin. According to all the weather forecasts (accuweather.com & weather.com) it looks like it will be raining...all day. After that it looks great, but what do you do while waiting for room (if it's not ready) and the weather doesn't allow you to hop in the pool or explore the parks?

Thanks

I would either go to Downtown Disney and shop a bit, or maybe walk around Epcot where I could duck into some of the pavilions, or spend some time in Innoventions. Staying at the Dolphin, you should have easy access to both of these places. Good luck. The weather forecasts are not very accurate this far ahead anyway, so maybe it won't rain!:D

We don't ever let the rain stop us. We put on the rain ponchos and go. Epcot is a good park for a rainy day. With the exception of Test Track, you are pretty much indoors. If you were looking for something to do that didn't use a park admission, then you could resort hop and explore transportation i.e. you could go to Epcot to catch the monorail to the TTC, take the ferry to the MK and then take boat/monorail to any of the monorail resorts to explore.

Epcot is always our first choice for a rainy day...and it has happend to us several times. Just grab a poncho or an umbrella and you'll be fine. Most of the attractions are indoors and you can spend time in all the pavillions...you'll just have to run between buildings.:D

The first day of our first trip was in the rain at Epcot -- and the kids still had a blast! And there were hardly any people that stayed for Illuminations -- so we had great veiwing, right on the fence without having to camp out a spot ahead of time! So grab some ponchos and don't let the rain slow you down.

Since Epcot was going to be our first day trip...we'll keep it that way.
You're all right! Throw on our windbreakers with hoods and off we go.
No way a few drops of rain will keep us away from Disney fun!!

Just jumping on the "go anyway" bandwagon. A lot of people leave, many people who were on their way turn around and go back. Take a chance.

The only negative drawback is going back and forth between the humid and potentially still-hot Florida weather and the bitter-cold air conditioning in the pavilion. Sniffle...may result. If you can't pack really good raincoats, then get the best possible ponchos you can get. Have all your family members bring backpacks, so they can keep sweat shirts handy and dry. Keep warm inside, and as dry as possible outside, and you should feel fine.

Otherwise, just explore the resort, maybe sprint over to one of the other Epcot resorts, and have fun.

I understand...we are coming in on Oct 21 and it is 40% of PM T-Storms. Originally planned on chilling by the pool, and hitting the Food and Wine Festival for supper...may make an afternoon of it in EPCOT instead. Looking at weather.com the 28th only has a 10% chance of showers now and a hi of 81....sounds perfect.

We don't let the rain stop us. We go right in the parks. If it rained for your entire trip would you not go in the parks? Of course you would go into the parks, that is why you are there. So if you would go later and it was raining, why not sooner if it is raining? Grab a poncho and head to the MK!

Go to the Magic Kingdom. We were there in the spring and saw the (not sure this the correct name) Rainy Day Character Parade. The music was different, very cute, the characters in vehicles, alot of street performs, etc. I've been going for several years & this was the 1st time I've seen it. A CM was in front of me & she said it was the first for her as well. It's a rarity and something you want to see if you get a chance.

Well when we go and its raining, we uaually go to the parks, because people think oh its raining lets stay in the hotel till it stops, and that means less lines for rides, and the rides are indoors so ur not going to get wet. If we are not going to the parks the day it rains we usually go to the Contemp. arcade and hang out there, DTD, or get something to eat somewhere....

By all means, get to the parks! :) :) :)

Some of the best times my family has had has been when it's raining. Lines are short, so you're able to basically walk on to any thing you want to ride. One time when it was raining, my dad and I (mind you, this was over 20 years ago!) rode Space Mtn several times in just a few minutes span. We'd ride, get off and walk back through the queue nobody was in the line. Eventually the CM's stopped asking "how many in your party!" when they saw the two of us come through!

We haven't had a really rainy day in while, but it's good to have ponchos or umbrellas so you can still enjoy the parks. If it's torrentially raining hang around the resort or go to mgm or magic kingdom and go shopping. There was a downpour for at least 20 minutes while we were at The Land this past July. Everybody just waited by the doors for the rain to stop. We made it to Canada and it started coming down again so we waited inside the shops. If its rainy but not too heavy go to one of the parks, except Animal Kingdom, and go to the inside attractions.

Well I would go to DTD and hit the shops there. Then when I am done with that I would take a bus to Contemperary and go shoping and play the games in their game room. Then when I get bored of that I would take the monorail and go shoping at the other two resorts on that line. If I was not staying at the those resorts I would get off at MK and if it stoped raining by then I would go in or take the bus from there back to the resorts.
