What to do on a WDW rainy day

What are the parks like on rainy days? I don't mean downpours, but days when there is a light, slow rain. Do many of the attractions close for the day? What about the inside rides/shows, etc.

In our previous trips, we have never had a rainy day, but we have another visit in 10 days, and I figure our luck has GOT to run out sometime.

I know that Downtown Disney is available, but we are planning to hit it the afternoon we get to Disney, so if it rains later in the week, I still want to be able to visit the parks, if it is worth going to in inclement weather..

Thanks for your help!

Some of the attractions which go outside might be shut but I'd advise you just to get on with going round the park, whilst everyone else is sheltering from the rain.

If you dont mind getting a bit wet, you'll be fine, and might find the lines are shorter for some attractions, as people tend to go home when it starts raining.

Yup, and it's really funny to see everyone doing that stupid high stepping run to try and avoid getting wet, even though running like that just makes bigger splashes!

Mickey Mouse Ponchos are KEY!!

on my last trip i brought PLENTY of ponchos for my friends but they chose not to wear them (they thought they'd look dumb) but when it rained I was the only one who didnt look dumb...and wet

I think it rains 300 days out of 365 in Florida. The light slow rain you describe is pretty much every day in August form 4pm to 6pm.

Just buy a Mickey Poncho and keep going. Outdoor rides (e.g. Test Track) will shut down, but everything else (rides, shows, restaurants, etc) will keep going for the most part.

We've never let the rain stop us.

I would recemend going to walmart and getting a good rain jacket for $25 each they are much better than the ponco and never will rip and why more comfortable.

We had them on our last trip and even in the heavest downpour we didnt get wet at all we stood in the rain and watch the fireworks while everone was looking for a place under cover.

Yes the fireworks did proceed as planned, by the time they went off the rain was mild then. and they procceded. Most stuff is still open in the rain except the test track.

WDW also sells black umbrellas (the button-release, Tote type) for just about $4 more than the ponchos, and they were great for me and my family. Easily compacts, with wriststrap to help carry it after the rain...

Just ask. They are available at the register at most shops, just like the ponchos. Just not well-known.

I am all about the parks on a rainy day. MK, Epcot and the Studios have so many indoor attractions that it doesn't much make a difference to me. I am just glad that the crowds stay away.

I haven't been to AK in the rain but I suspect it wouldn't be much different. The only thing I would worry about there is the humidity. That park is wet and hot even when it isn't raining. Must be the "rainforest" effect.

I think rainy days are some of the best! Crowds go away, the sun isn't beating down on you, and running from ride to ride is always fun. it can be a bummer sometimes with like BTMR and other out door awesome attractions.

I agree. Grab a poncho and have some fun. It happened when were in MGM, everyone starting running for cover and we got on some rides with no wait.

A hint:

If you have no desire to be strapped into a vehicle which is stopped on a banked curve of a track during a torrential downpour, get out of the line at Test Track the second you hear the "We have detected inclimate weather approaching our Testing Facility" speil.

They do continue to run as many vehicles as possible at Test Track before the rain sets in, so you might get a slight drizzle if you're the next up in line, but if a sudden squall sets in, safety devices in the system will stop you dead in your tracks and the computers don't care if you're 5ft from the building, you're not going anywhere for a while.

well that would suck. beong stuck outside in the rain on the ride. Also, if it has just stopped raining they have to wait 1 hour, ypu 1 hour before they start the ride back up. I guess it needs to be bone dry for them to ride.

Last year I was on splash mountian in a huge downpour and they kept running the ride It was raining so much but no lighting and they kept running the ride, Then it stoped and we where stuck out side, I got soked, my girlfriend had her poncho on luckly. But it was still fun.

Thats why this year i bought the good light weight rain jackets.

I was very lucky this year...and did not really get down poured on ....and a note about ponchos.....if you are a sweater like I am....those things hold in moisture...like a zip loc bag...lol it is VERY uncomfortable.....so I did with out the poncho...and I was fine :)
