What to do if Thursday is your first day.....

So, we are driving to WDW in August and it looks like we will be pulling into the resort around 8 in the morn. The room is not likely to be ready but, you never know. We are Going for 8 days. What park would you go to that first day? It will be a Thursday not sure I that would make a difference in your planning. I believe it is early emh for Mk.

One thing I did a few years ago (I was solo for the first day...) was I dropped off my bags at my resort and jumped on the first bus that came by. I went to that park (HS) and strolled around leisurely and did a ride or two and then decided to walk over to Epcot... did a nice walk around World Showcase and then took the monorail to MK and grabbed a Dole Whip and did some people watching...and then finished my excursion with a trip to AK where I completed my 4 parks in one day teaser with a safari....by the time I finished my preview tour, my room was ready and I had a great time checking everything out....

I'll join in the AK suggestions. It may make sense to cross off one of your less important must-do's. I would even think a waterpark and/or mini-golf would be an enjoyable way to differentiate your vacation from your non-WDW existence.

We always do MK our first full day. If we arrive later in the day, we do Epcot for the evening. Have a great trip!

If you plan to go to a park when you get there, then, I would still do MK. We're done other parks first, but were thinking of Mk and Main Street the whole time. It's simply not Disney until we walk that street. If you are arriving that early, even an early emh wouldn't be bad at all especially that week. You could use the time to get immersed in the experience. Can't think of a better way to start a vacation.
