OK, I got to thinking about this on another thread but flash photography is becoming an increasingly big problem. I just don't know what to do about it? Any suggestions as to handle these rude people? I just get so fed up it ruins certain dark rides such as HM or PotC cause I am blinded repeatedly by rude people.

I was at Muppetvision Tuesday and there must have been 20 people taking pictures during the show, even after they were told several times at the start to stop because the CM was still at the microphone.

It's a tough situation because people who are rude enough not to listen to the CM's usually have something worse to say to you when you correct them. I will usually try to say something to the people if I can (ex: on the pirates boat) but it usually doesn't work. I think it bothers me more though that the CM's see it on camera and most of the time don't say anything.

Eh, ask them to stop nicely. If they ignore you I guess your out of look. Not like its worth throwing them off the boat in PoTC (or maybe it is?).

I admit I was a once a culprit but it was because I had forgotten to turn the flash off. Now I leave the flash off and up the ISO on my camera for dark shots.

Or.....you can use a camera with infrared functions:

This one was during the ToT....

Sometimes it happens by accident. A few times I forget to turn my flash off and I felt bad. But in some cases people do it on purpose.

ok...here is my (true) story.

we're on POTC, in the front seats, behind us are three people and one has one of those enormous camcorders WITH THE BIG OL' FLOOD LIGHT, yes he is filming...flooding the back of our heads with heat and light. i was stunned someone would do this!!!

i'll spare the details but he turned if off after about 20 seconds :brick:

So I shouldn't use the red eye reducing multi flashing flash when i'm taking pictures in Small World. What if the dolls are looinkg right at my camera....

People that do this are one of 2 things:

1. Rude and disrespectful of others. In this case I don't mind being just as rude right back.

2. Too dumb to know any better. They can be trained sometimes so it is worth a try I say.

The first time it happens, I let it slide. Because as a previous poster said sometimes it's just a boo boo. But when it repeatedly happens..... well, I probably still won't say anything because I'm too chicken to speak up. But I will certainly be steaming in my seat!:fork: Usually I just repeat the phrase "Disney World is a happy place" over and over again in my head and try to calm down.:hammer:

I know it can take away from the experience (especially in say, the Mansion) but I've been there and seen it so many times, that I try not to let it bother me. Getting angry about it will only cause ME any pain, because likely the other person when confronted will either shrug it off and ignore you, or say something ignorant/colorful which will only further diminish the Disney magic.

Now, when I see people using flash photography in a museum, WATCH OUT. This art historian does not deal with people doing this as it can, over time, damage the paint, etc. But if you've ever been to the Louvre in front of the Mona Lisa, even with the glass case enclosing it, you know what a joke the "No Flash Photography" signs are...:ROFLOL:

We were on Soarin in Sept and a woman a few spaces over kept taking flash pictures. It was driving me crazy!

First off, what on earth does she think she is taking pictures of? And secondly, they will never turn out.

I really wanted to say something but my DH told me just ignore it.....Next time, hehehe........

A lot of the people who do that I have seen are chinese people and teenagers.

Sad...BUT I actually have taken pictures before where it is acceptable but the times I forget to take off the flash and everyone looks at me I beg for forgiveness. I have this new Fuji camera that I CAN'T wait to use it there this summer. Talk about great dark pictures without the flash.

There is a third option, as some have already alluded to.....it's an accident.
I had this happen to me in the Journey Into Imagination. I was intending to take pictures without the flash, but it was a new camera and I had the wrong setting. I tried several times to fix it, but I couldn't see it properly because it was, you know, pretty dimly lit. Finally I gave up.

I have always honored the restriction when it is announced or posted. But not all rides do that. For instance, didn't even try in HM, but Small World seemed okay.
Same with video: Monsters Laugh Floor, not allowed, no problem. But no one said anything in Turtle Talk, nor did they object.

Only once did I intentionally do it-- in POTC....and that was because we were stuck in the same place for about several minutes near the end and I finally said "screw it, I'm getting a picture of Jack Sparrow". By that time, I didn't ruin anything and no one objected.

Yes, I've since learned my camera a bit better....

Accident or not, if they are near me, I will politely mention the policy. I've had the occasional accident, and was politely corrected. I turned off my flash and apologized. But if someone continues, I will continue to correct them, and turn them in to a cast member. And I've met those folks with the big video camera with the light as well. Asked them to turn off the light two times before they did. A simple policy of confiscating cameras of people who repeatedly ignore the rules and ruin the other guest enjoyment would suffice nicely.

I don't care too much when people take photos where there is no restriction. But it drives me CRAZY when they use flashs in rides where there are restrictions (Laugh Floor, HM, Nemo, ect).
