DHS What should they do with Animation Courtyard?

Do not even suggest skibidi toilet at Disney world.
That would be terrible.

Fox stuff has to come to wdw eventually, right?,
no, it really doesn't. It is a Disney branded park and resort... Not an OLD FOX IP park... it takes sometimes decades to get hit Disney IP into the theme parks in a meaningful way....why should they rush already-used IP into Disney's proprietary parks?

I mean Bluey was the most streamed show in 2024 and Fortnite has made over $40,000,000,000. I can't imagine all of the duck tales combined have made over a few billion.
Depends on if you adjust for inflation, the Duck comics are one of the most successful and revered comic series of all time, if not THE. They sold more than superhero comics and only stopped selling better because Barks retired. I'd imagine revenue from the comics + merch adjusted for inflation is something notable.

That said, profitability SHOULD NOT dictate what deserves an attraction/entire land.

I know he did, I was the one who asked him! And i greatly respect the man, But to me, there are way too many question marks.
  • Why would they forgo the usual d23 structure and announce it on EU opening Disney doesnt really SHOW desperation like that.
  • There is no real lead on an IP, as multiple suggestions have all been shot down (Zootopia, Simpsons, Marvel, possibly bluey, ect.) even Len himself said he has only heard “vague concepts”
  • Nobody else has really commented on it, not even Len, since the initial day it was brought about.
I dont doubt AC is gonna get replaced, and i would LOVE if it was NOW, but for me personally, until i hear or see more, there are too many question marks for me to go all in and put my full trust in it.

I mean, I could be wrong. Two different sources pointed to that timeframe and explicitly mentioned that reason. Neither of them is named "Bob Iger."

I don't recall if I said it upthread: Other than the thing that's going in the Villains show after Villains, none of the ideas I've heard from either source sounded firm, none overlapped, and nothing sounded great to me.

We're two months out from Epic U, so that might be enough to firm up some other ideas. If they don't have anything stupendous, then I'd rather they not announce anything.

thanks. I undertand. Hope I don’t come off as rude or anything, I respect what you do, you cool. I get that sourcing is a game of telephone.

Though your wording about both ideas not being great are what worry me. I hope they aren’t “ROA CARS” bad. Because that would STINK.

And for the show after the villains show, color me Intrigued! Hope it’s something that’ll make us happy.

I have a feeling ROA Cars will be better than what we end up with. Not expecting anything crazy for Animation Courtyard.

What do you mean they already have plans to replace something they haven't opened?!

Okay, so, from the top for AC.

>"Not hearing Simpsons"-someone in this thread
>"Haven't heard Zootopia in awhile"-someone in this thread
>Len has heard two ideas, neither sound firm, overlapped with each other, or sounded too amazing.

If they're going to blow the prime land that is AC on a lame duck land, that'll be extremely disappointing. Definitely more intrigued what comes after Villains though (which I assume would close/move due to Villains Land opening?)

I feel like whatever land are built in Hollywood they will be single ip lands (ie not a Pixar pier or Tropical Americas, but a monsters inc or Toy Story land). I just don't see Disney building anything that isn't huge in AC given the investment needed to remove and prep the site. Given the recent investment in marvel I really could see a wakanda or an avengers campus that doesn't include universal marvel ip being built. but don't see them spending a lot of money in a big area on a tv show or video game. plus disney doesn't seem interested in that anyway.

I think some franchises are too successful and loved to not have theme park lands. Frozen marvel and Star Wars are all franchises Disney would have been stupid to not make lands for.

Zootopia, Moana, Frozen, Avengers Campus are all fine ... but please ... no simpsons.

My vote goes for Zootopia with a different attraction than shanghai. Preferably an EMV ala dinosaur.

Though I do understand the desire for a water ride in DHS.
Agree, I was actually thinking pre the muppet announcement of RnRC it coulda been rethemed to a Zootopia coaster. That said I could a zootopia kids ride (like teacups or a omnimover) or could see a rollercoaster (as I think HS should be the more thrill/adult leaning park while having kid options)

First point. Catch all type IP lands like my idea for a Disney Animation area seem more catered to DLR because of their repeat local visitors. Maybe that can be the first land to get built in the Simba lot at DCA.

As for Marvel coming to WDW in full, maybe it's not all the far fetched. My notion that with the success of Wicked and Universal's desire to fast track it into their parks, that Wicked could replace MSHI. The IP fits best in IOA since I don't see them touching the 20+ acre expansion pad until all the existing lands have their existing pads filled out. As for LC they probably want to keep that open in the event they figure out Zelda.

Just my opinion ... if they are really going to announce this outside of a convention, the week of EU opening & in the midst of several other attractions already being built at the resort. It has to be for a bigger IP than Simpsons.

If they really want to take the attention away ... If they want an actual win. My guess is they have secured Marvel rights for Animation Courtyard.

Otherwise, no need for a big splashy announcement.

A Simpsons announcement will not garner any media attention strong enough to pull attention away from EU.

This is logical but what I find illogical on Disneys part is them thinking announcing any land will take attention away from a brand new, real, ready to visit park with state of the art attractions. So far they’re 0-1 when it comes to Marvel lands. It might get people like us talking but nobody is getting excited for a Disney Marvel land until they prove themselves. And even if they knocked it out of the park with Avengers Campus you can only get so excited about concept art and a bunch of hot air for a land that’s a minimum 5 years out. The only thing that sounds truly buzz worthy to me would be an OT Star Wars Land with various locations from the trilogy.

I could see them do something like they did for WDSP. Announce a major investment and overhaul of the park without providing specifics. Just a thought. With Monsters Inc, Rockin’ Muppets, Villains show, Animation Courtyard expansion, that would be a significant overhaul of the park IMO.

Counterpoint: avatar is one of the best things to happen to wdw in years. And that’s a Fox ip. So potential is there. Just imagine, planet of the apes land, on the same level as pandora?

Planet Of The Apes Land? Isn't that what they did to the Jungle Cruise?
DHS already has a bombed-out dystopian future land (SWGE) it doesn't need another one.....and Planet Of The Apes does not conjure images of fun....
DHS finally getting a REAL-DEAL Toontown buildout with multiple attractions, retail and dining would be great...and it could also be the repository for multiple old Disney cartoon characters and IP... Not themed to any one particular film, but many ...all gathered into a gorgeous 1940s Hollywood package... It would feel like the perfect fit unless the budget cut it to death....
