What Should I Wear Next Week?

My wife and I will be arriving at MCO this Sunday, and will be staying through Saturday (no, we're not running the marathon....I'm allergic to exercise).

We went this same week last year, but it was nice weather. I'm looking at weather.com right now and the first 4 days of our trip are supposed to be 58 high/35 low. Brrrrr.

Now, since I'm allergic to exercise, I have about 30# of natural insulation, and I can tolerate what most people consider "chilly" while wearing shorts. But I've never experienced 50s in Florida during the day.

Any advice? Does 58 in Florida feel like 58 in Indiana? How long into the morning do the low temps apply, and how early does it get too cold at night?

I'm just hoping I can get away with shorts on some days, perhaps jeans (bleh) and then NOT have to wear a sweatshirt and lug it around all day.

Thanks!

Tom

It's Florida- it won't be cold all day. I'd just stick with shorts and a T-shirt with an extra long sleeve left in the car.

The sun feels A LOT warmer here then up north, so even when it's cold, if you're in the sunlight, it feels nice. Now, add a breeze onto that and it removes the extra warmth and when the sun goes down, suddenly the "feels like" temp plummets - fast.

Highs in the upper 50's/low 60's are jeans and sweater weather to me. But then, I've been in Florida over 20 years! Love has a higher cold resistance then I do but even he will wear jeans during the day in those kinds of temps. (And either a tee or long-sleeve, light-weigh tee.)

Bear in mind, either way, once the sun sets it will feel cold.

I like to equate winter weather in Orlando to mid-October here in Massachusetts. (Most of Indiana is south of Mass, so perhaps think of your November instead...) Sometimes you get a cold snap and it barely makes it into the 50's during the day, other days you can be walking around in jeans (and sometimes shorts) and a T-shirt but then have to pull on a sweatshirt after sunset.

In the winter in the parks I find that I tend to either carry a backpack around the parks (which I never do in warm weather), or rent a locker to store it, just so I have a sweatshirt (and jeans if I've worn shorts) handy.

Basically pack for all possibilities. Check weather.com or accuweather.com right before your trip and adjust your ratio of cool-weather-to-warm-weather clothing as appropriate.

No car, just Kidani Villiage :p

Yeah, I'm starting to think I'll be wearing the jeans the first half, then short the latter half since it may climb into 60s. I wear shorts here down to 60.

I'll be wearing jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt under a sweatshirt under a jacket...:D

Wow. I'd melt!

I'll take a Florida 58 over a Michigan 16 any day!

Yeah, it's a balmy 40 and rainy here today. It was 20s and 30s over Christmas. Anything Florida can dish out will be better than this.

We'll be watching forecasts until Saturday night and will just pack for all seasons (thank God I have an enormous suitcase). I refuse to carry anything around the parks, so I'll just make my executive sweatshirt decision each morning and suffer the consequences either way :p

Thanks for all the input. I've been to WDW in almost every type of weather....including previous January weather...but never this cold. It'll be a new experience, for a change. Regardless, I'll take these temps over Florida in the summer!

We'll be there at the end of next week and whole week after and I'm planning on wearing jeans, a short sleeve shirt or tank top with a fleece or hoodie but my boyfriend is wearing shorts and a sweatshirt.
It is chilly in the morning and night but can get warm during the day so I guess it depends on what makes you comfortable!

You going for the marathon?

I'm just going to pack a couple pair of jeans and a few pair of shorts - then all my tees and just decide in the morning if I'm going to take the sweatshirt or not. That will be the hardest decision each day :p

Well I am a Florida girl through and through....:D

And I'm an Indiana boy - I'm not used to ANY kind of weather. It can be 70 to 95 in the summer and -10 to 50 in the winter. Every day is pot luck, but I'm warm-blooded and would rather shiver for a bit than melt in a sweatshirt.

Thanks for all the input!

I'll be down there next week too, leaving tomorrow! Just got done packing, tried to keep a variety. Lots of capri pants, no shorts, a few pairs of pants. Several hoodie sweatshirts and a light cardigan sweater. Several t-shirts and a couple long sleeve tees. Also packed flipflops because with capris and flipflops, I'm usually just as cool as I would be in shorts. And since it won't be HOT, I figured I can do fine without shorts.

As long as it doesn't rain, I'll be happy. And like someone else said, ANYTHING in Florida next week will be better than what it will be like back in Pennsylvania!

Well, we'll probably pass each other and not even know it. With that said, here's a virtual wave

I think you'll beat my suitcase by a few pounds :)

We went that week last year and I pretty much wore jeans and tee with a front zip sweatshirt most days. Husband and son wore shorts and tees. It got very cold after dark a few days and watching the fireworks and shivering was no fun, they finally admitted! Plan to do similiarly this year when we go. I alternate my two Disney World sweatshirts. The mornings often start out chilly and the sweatshirts feel good, then it warms and for a few hours of the day its tied on me, and then in the evening I put it back on. :)

Yeah, last year (Jan 2-10) I was fine in my shorts and tee with button-up short-sleeve over-shirt, pretty much the entire time. There were a few mornings that I about froze to death, but that was better than carrying a sweatshirt the rest of the day.

Temps are averaging 10 degrees lower next week than last year, same week. Oh, such turmoil we go through to visit the World that we love so dear

I leave on Wednesday for a week. I'm planning on tshirts with long sleeve shirts under them & jeans. I'll probably be taking a fleece zip up with me to the parks for the evenings.

Coming up on a pretty chilly week, next week; I would pack some cool weather attire (down in the thirties at night).

I am finding it comfortable wearing jeans and tee during the day, am only having to pull out the sweater or jacket after dark. Make sure you bring a sweatshirt or jacket with you and have jeans as well as shorts mostly for the evening and you will be fine. My best piece of advise is to make sure you bring a pair of warm PJ's, as i've had to dig my out my warm PJ's out of the closet last night. The temps during the day are okay, the cold does however set is very quickly as soon as the sun sets, and we do have a couple of nights being forcasted for below freezing conditions.
